E3 2006

It's that most wonderful time of the year again. Time for The Electronic Entertainment Expo other wise referred to as E3. I've decided to start this thread so we can have a place to discuss the upcoming announcements and news as it starts to stream out of the tradeshow. In the meantime discuss what your looking forward to seeing in the show I.E. PS3 playable demos, Xbox 360 announcement of Halo 3, or the official unveiling of the Nintendo Wii (in case you haven't heard nintendo has announced that the official name for the revolution shall be called the Wii) game line up and a demonstration of how the new controller works with different Wii games.

Who came up with that stupid name? What does Wii even mean? Anyways, I may not be able to go, but I'll see E3 on G4.

Wow, I don't see that anywhere in the rules. I see "16. Do not remove moderator-edits from your posts: This makes sure that you don't get warned by a different moderator who did not see the first mod-edit." However, I didn't remove your edit. Besides, it's good to be humbled every now and again. If I am wrong and there is a rule about that, I am sincerely sorry and will try not to do it again.

That Halo 3 trailer was some beautiful looking stuff, though. I can't wait to see what the gameplay footage and mechanics will be like.

Being the Playstation fanboy that I am, I think i'm looking forward to Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy versus XIII more than I did KH2 :p

All I can say is that FF XIII and MGS owned for sony, wish I could say the same for the rest of the software that was on display. Also is it just me or is the whole mankind vs. overpowering Alien forces starting to become it's own cliche. As much I love the whole idea of being that one soldier fighting and losing battle against thousands of hostile forces wishing to slaughter whats rest of my race can't help but feel that the concept is starting to be a bit overdone. Lets count the examples in this new and upcomming genre.

Resistance: The fall of man: this is probably the least interesting of the pack, nice WWII imagery but everything else offered here has been done before and by better developers.

Crysis: Fighting against an unknown alien force in the tropics, complete with war of the worlds style tripod walkers, one of the better looking examples but conceptually not that exciting.

Gears of War: One of the prettiest games to be featured within this genre but Cliffy B. is going to have to work extra hard to make this one stand out from the crowd. Me likey the giant spider creatures seen in the trailer but the generic grunts aren't nearly as exciting.

Halo 3: of course the great grand daddy of man against the hostile alien, despite the fact that no new gameplay was shown, and the trailer didn't look signifigantly better then Halo 2 just to see the good old MC in ridiculously dramatic and hopeless situation is almost enough to get me to sign up for a third and final tour of duty. Speaks volumes about the kind of relationship that Bungie has developed with their fans. Although I'm getting seriously tired of hearing bungie employees whine about how hard there job is. Fricking Hideo Kojima and his crew produce twice as much content as them with more gameplay and story and I've never heard him bitch about how time consuming it is try and brain storm and implement something as simple as dual wielding.

also this crater is 3 miles across, and rendered in realtime geometry, plus, everything is lighted from 1 source ( the sun), not the multiple light points in halo 2, then add hdr, depth of field and stuff = a million times better:

I've seen the trailer and looked at the screen shots. They are quite nice, but honestly I can't help but feel that in terms of visuals halo has been outclassed by the likes of FF XIII, MGS 4, Gears of War, and CRYSIS. What were seeing here appears to be an evolution of the halo 2 engine rather then something new build from scratch.

Don't get me wrong I love the halo mythology as much as next guy. I personally can't wait to play it and see how Bungie draws everything to a close. I'm just a bit worried about the gameplay. Bungie's kind of written themselves into a corner where the gameplay and fiction are so delicatly interwined that it's very difficult to introduce new things.

Case in point, do you expect to see any new weapons or vehicles in halo 3? In terms of the game's fiction all of the human and covenant weapons have already been displayed. This was established in halo 2 where we the players were given a greater insight into the workings of the covenant. So how could you justify a new covenant weapon or vehicles? Is it something that they built and produced between the handful of hours between the events of halo 2 and halo 3? Same goes for vehicles, Bungie has displayed everything in the covenant armada to throw in something new conflicts with previously established designs. Most importantly this goes for fighting enemies as well. We've seen all of the races who are apart of the covenant. Since at the end of halo 2 we saw the essential brakedown of the covenant it's almost impossible to justify more races to serve as new enemies.

Considering that the trailer implies that the human defense has all but been whiped out. I can't imagine how the Master Chief is going to get his hands on some new human weapons since in the apacolyptic setting no new weapons can be manufactured. Then again who knows, maybe the chief will stumble across a vintage collection oe WW II weapons and dual wield some lugers.

Another thing that concerns me is what other gameplay innovations can bungie bring? In halo 2 the only thing they really did was add dual wielding and the ability to board vehicles. What else can they introduce? IMHO Halo 2 was a half finished game, the single player campaign contained only half a story arc with no resolution. In many respects I don't see halo 3 as a completion of a trilogy but more or less bungie owning up to their broken promise.

LOL that's awesome. Solid Snake in Smash Brothers. That's gonna be so weird; I hope he'll fit into the system well. The others sound fun too, like Meta Knight or the new Samus.

Edit: Here's a better link with more news and screenshots: SSB Brawl. The best thing is is that it will be compatable with the Gamecube controller, and won't use the Wii's motion sensor. I was a bit worried the style of gameplay would change drastically, but I guess not XD.

Reading really is overrated these days. I'm wondering if he might also have a silencer for his B attack. Also, it says Wario will have a fart attack.

and for now... the Wii is the only console i will buy, unless they release FFVII (with the awsome graphic, like in the Tech Demo) on the PS3 (i won't buy the crap Xbox360 that for sure)

I hope they have a charge up meter with a special attack, but not finisher moves. That would just take a major part out of smash bros.

The ass shot is from Zero Suit Samus(no suit).

and I want the special attacks to be how the super jumps: are a way to at least keep you from dying. At the most the attack should do 50% damage.
