Yes, I totally agree that Kanbei slapped Katsushiro because he neglected maintenance on his sword. However, I also think that Kanbei did it to snap Katsushiro out of his daze.

Overall, the animation was pretty good. It's just that some of the villagers, the extra ladies, were drawn pretty awful. I guess that was intentional.

The story is shaping up pretty well. Oh, btw, who was in the shadows in the forest? Was it a bandit, one of the samurais, or someone we don't know about yet?

oh, i dont say that lunar subbing is inaccurate.. it's just lacking. it gets the main jist... well, either way i don't really care too much coz the subbed files are so much smaller than RAWS. i don't reckon heihachi's bloodthirsty either... the issue of trust still gets me.. i get the whole traitor thing and kill those who betray us.. just that he's trying to save the farmers and... ah doesn't matter i guess.. it'll all come to light if i wait a little (anime always answers my questions slong as i wait awhile)
i agree that katsushiro's (i think that's his name.... hate him so much) first kill was very well done.. like, there's no way a person could be fine or not clumsy with their first skill... so i applaud the scriptwriters for that.

jimmymasaki, the idea of killing the farmer he is supposed to be saving, well, I think it has to do with the concept of saving the village, not the individual. He felt that farmer betrayed the village and should be punished accordingly. Besides, later on, they mentioned that the most feared aspect of war is not the enemy, but a traitor amongst your comrades. He must have dealt with a traitor before.

Katsushiro is necessary in this series. He represents how a young Samurai becomes a true Samurai. In some ways, it might reflect how Kanbei became who he is right now. It definitely adds character to the storyline.
