Sand's more like the "environmental manipulation" stuff (like rock/wood clones, water jutsus etc.
Bubbles just don't cut it for me. <- This is entirely personal of course.
One could look in the other direction and say a true ninja can use anything as a weapon. Even bubbles! <- I simply don't happen to see it that way.
I might have had troubles taking those bubbles seriously if the dude had been goofier (like the Naruto filler characters usually are) but he has actually acted in a pretty cool and composed manner. Plus the bubbles have a certain charm as new weapon as such because they are different compared to most things: They float around unhurriedly and can be even hard to see and avoid. Although realistically speaking they should be quite adversely affectedly in a windy outdoors environment (unless you are upwind and want them to go specifically downwind) but that remains to be seen.
I wish Sai had gotten more character development...
When they are ready to kill him off I'm sure we will get an episode or two (plus whatever filler is felt necessary at the time) worth of character development.Quote:

I would agree that a bubbly water gun jutsu would be an obvious water jutsu, but that would just decrease the density of the medium, and lessen the concussive force on impact.

While I agree that scientifically speaking water and bubbles don't really corralate, this is a show with anime/video game logic, in which bubbles are always a water attack.
The fact that bubbles are less dense really doesn't mean anything in relation to power when you take into account that it's magic. It's like in Pokemon, Bubblebeam is stronger than Water Gun.
I think the western perspective is that bubbles are effeminate. Since there is a guy using bubbles, it is a male using a technique that westerners may expect a female use. I am from America and just stating things as I partially see them (I have trouble accepting bubbles myself, so maybe this is why). Living in Korea I think I can understand how an Asian might disagree with me on the use of bubbles.
I'm teaching English in South Korea currently and it is not uncommon to see two male students using the same chair while watching a movie or otherwise relaxing: someones one will sit in the others lap. Male students often travel to the bathroom in groups, just as females, and often fondle each other (small touches here and there). Yet they are not 'gay'. I have no problem with this of course: it is a different culture. I'm sure there are countries with even more 'macho' men, and the accompanying mindset, than America. The point is perhaps you have problems with bubbles because you are from a different culture. Maybe Japanese are like 'dude, I wish I could kill people with bubbles. That is so cool.'
Anyways you think we have it bad just watching someone get killed by bubbles? Imagine being the guy getting killed.
