Don't know how you made those, but I'll just go ahead and say pretty damn impressive.
Currently working on this one:
ARX-8Laevatein
The progress:
Arm and a portion of the chest.
Articulation of the arm with the utility arms activated.
wow, that's something totally different from what I'm used to seeing. What do you make those things with? I just realized I have no idea what mech parts should look like, and even after seeing enough Gundams to make eyes bleed...
looking nice, could you post some wires?
I use Goolgle Sketchup 6. It's very easy to use especially if you have a little background in draftsmanship.
Extra progress:
Arms and chest(front)
Arms and chest(back)
As requested, here's the wireframe shot of the model:
Wireframe
Current progress:
80% Complete!
it has NO FEET
nah, looks pretty damn good. I'm not quite a fan of mechs with useless features, like the 'hair' here... But it looks like a good, all around mech.
nice job. time consuming I bet?
For the hair, let's just say that it's a weapon, right when you need it :)
The "Hairs" are actually retractable heat-dispensing fibers that aid the Lambda Driver's cooling system. Info about the Laevatein
;)
Very impressive stuff. Put him in some Jordan's and you have an instance pop art t-shirt that sneakerheads around the world would buy.
I'm done with the main unit :D :
Front
Back
Front (Fully equiped)
Back (Fully equiped)
I'll add the 165mm Demolition Gun Later
very nice work dude, you've got talent.
Huge props to you on those mechs man. Overall a wonderful job on entire project.
Thanks for the comments guys :D
Here's another WIP. Still FMP! related:
M9 Gernsback (Kyoto Animation Ver.)

i'm lovin the new wip. i like seeing these mechs in the early design stages, kinda reminds me of the time i spent putting together a gundam model kit. if i didn't know any better i'd say that mithril was a real co. and you were on the design team :P keep it up!
Sorry for the late update (no thanks to my college proffesors):

^better late than never...reminds me i've not had the time to touch my thread in a while as well, but anyhow it's good to see that you're still kicking ass and taking names with regards to the mech designs. everything is on point, from the shading to the lineart. everything's just crisp. fine job once again
It's been a while.
Here is the Version 2 of the Arbalest model:

I picked up this rendering program for Sketchup, called Kerkythea. Played a little with it and got this result:

Transformation animation(front view)
Transformation animation(rear view)
Ok. That was pretty awesome.
Awesome stuff. You did this only using SketchUp?
Yup. But the renders(those with a black background) are done in another program, Kerkythea 2008 and the animations are SketchUp + Flash combo.
Nice. I didn't know you can do so much with SketchUp. I've just downloaded a program called Maxon Cinema 4D, so I hope to find time soon to give it a try. I don't have much experience with 3D modelling, but I'm hoping to learn.
nice models, but the animations ( even though it has some nice complexity) definitly shows you aren't using a powerfull program, start using 3dsmax, its animation system is really easy to learn. Same to you Psyke, don't even start with 4d, get max instead ;).
I'm not prepared to go through thick books just to do some simple modelling, that's why I chose 4D over StudioMax because I read that it is easier. Time is a luxury these days....
I never read a single book...max is really easy, you can learn how to make simple models in a few hours, even minutes if you catch on quick.
Plus max is loaded with tutorials for if you need them.
Really? Sounds good. I'll give it a try and tell ya how it turns out. Thanks for the advice. Hopefully I can be as good as Illrenmazou.
Box Modeling Psyke, Box modeling, you basically think of what you want, break it down into basic simple elements then put them back together There you go, you have a spaceship or a car.
I'll try 3DStudio max after I upgrade my rig, which I think would be next year.
*Kicks my 1.6ghz PC*
I just installed 3D Studio Max, and have a good feel of the interface. Still starting out with the really basic stuff though. Any tips from the pros here would be very much appreciated. I'm thinking of starting small, but all those stuff from Illrenmazou really makes me wanna start with a Gundam... :p
If I recall, 3d studio comes with a series of basic tutorials to get you started.
...depends on whether you downloaded the smaller or larger version
Also...i highly recommend the 3ds max video tutorials on 3dbuzz.com
Don't skip the preliminary UI overview videos. There are lots of small tools that are easy to overlook in the UI, but add a LOT to your workflow if you know how to use them.
St33v speaks the truth, before you start to actually build something, try to learn what most of the UI does.
I've already looked through the basic set of tutorials, but I think there's another move advanced set some where. Will also try to look up 3dbuzz.com when I can. Thanks!
Holy cow!
That is some god damn skills buddy. Man I wish i had the practice time and skills. can you do characters besides mecha not trying to be rude or anything.
Sadly no. Making organic/irregular shaped objects in SketchUp is a pain. Unless I pick up a better program like 3D Studio Max, I'll just stick on making mechas.
Someone from Mechatalk asked me if I can translate his Franken Gundam art into 3D:

Here's the progress so far:

Looking sweet!! Do show us the completed model once you're done!
i really like the front view, the head has an awesome design
Thanks! But I shouldn't take credit for the design. :p
@Psyke: Will do.
Edit: removed the broken links from xs.to
Really nice! I've finally found enough time to restart what I started learning on 3ds Max. Still only just figuring the basic stuff, but hopefully I can start doing what you're doing soon.
EDIT: removed the broken links from xs.to
good stuff, really STOP using sketchup >_<, you have a lot of talent thats essentially being wasted atm.
It's been a while. I have finished the Daeg Hagal more than a month ago, sorry for not posting this earlier:
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/9...gal1sa6.th.png http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/755...gal1bg4.th.png http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/1...gal1nz7.th.png http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/9...eildgk1.th.png http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/461...inusym6.th.png http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/9...tionzs6.th.png http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/9...tionsj0.th.png
And here's an RX-78-2 model, my entry for the SketchUp Challenge #68
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/2...ntedis3.th.png http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/150...rmedaz7.th.png http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/930...ifleoj3.th.png http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/4...abermt3.th.png http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/329...ookazy0.th.png http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/3...mmerdx2.th.png
Usually, it takes me 2-4 months to create a decent model, sometimes even more. But the challenge has a time constrain of 3 weeks so I must pick a simple MS design. The Alex (War in the Pocket) and Ground type Gundam (8th MS Team) crossed my mind but since 2009 is the franchise' 30th anniversary, I think the RX-78-2 is the most fitting choice.
I'm not going to say it again, move on to a different modeling package, you've got talent, and I really like your own designs but for the past updates I really haven't seen you improve that much.
And I blame Sketchup for that.
Anyway nice job on the rx-78 ;)
Awesome. I'm still stuck with my 3DS Max tutorials and don't have the time to work on it more......
Rendered using Hypershot:

Turntable Animation:
http://th06.deviantart.net/fs47/150/...y_Illsteir.jpg
Yeah, I'm still using SketchUp :p
Finally, I gave up on Max after a long hiatus. Decided to try out Sketch up instead. Can you animate in Sketch up? Or do we need a separate program?
SketchUp does not have a full fledged animation feature. There was a separate program for it called Antics but development and distribution ceased last year.
Current WIP: an FMP! wallpaper. Still working on the BG.

P.S. Sorry for the late reply
awesome works man : those workshops sure are a catalyst for artistic development. love the soldiers it looks as though youve walked in onesboots for a day... and want to do it again
Thanks man :)
Some new renders I made.

I'm currently working on the M6 Bushnel, the predecessor of the M9 Gernsback
wow, they look really great... all 5 are really well done and cool
I accidentally discovered this thread and I must say props!
OT but FMP is probably right on top of my list of mangas/novels that must have new seasons in anime.
The final novel will be out some time this year.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...-being-written
Maybe we'll get some news regarding a new anime season when it comes out.
I've only recently began to follow the Full Metal Panic series and after completing second raid i can see why you're a fan
Also hoping for a third ( fourth? ) season soon, can't wait to see what Arbalest is fully capable of in the hands of a proper pilot
Many apologies to the OP of this thread if I am taking this way off topic. What I really like about the anime is the fact that it captures the struggles of Sagara really well. His fears of underperforming and thus his friends dying, ah I am not going to ruin it for other people. But I love this show quite a lot and have gone ahead and purchased whatever novels that were translated to English from Tokyo Pop (there were 3) and all I can say is...NEED MORE! I am totally with you Archangel about the 3rd and 4th seasons :)
Did I say great job on the mecha renders already?
Nah, that's okay. I've also posted all translated FMP! novels in the Manga/Novels section. You can continue discussing there :)
Also, Thanks for the praise!
That's just awesome.
Thanks :D
Here's something that's not 3D:
http://th04.deviantart.net/fs50/150/...y_Illsteir.jpg
I love that red mech! Your work inspires!
Ephyon? Nice.
Yep. It's my own rendition. The mobile armor transformation will be very different from the original but it will still have a two-headed dragon look.
I forgot to post this one:
