That's not really a change.
1) autopilot may mean something autostabilisating or something, not exactly "dummy plug". even aircrafts now have something like that. cagalli used something like this.
2) remote control without pilot explicitly allowing it is a really bad idea (not that they use information warfare in gundam or something). it may have slow react-time and may be shut down with neutron jammer like other dario communication. not usuable for fighting, but usuable for landing.
3) first gundams was reprogrammed after they stole them, for freedom in GS, lacus had proper codes, and that's possible with some chairman conspiracy.
