While doing that uber-wolf transformation move, Kiba cannot see and cannot smell anything save their own piss. Shino's really going to stand there and get urinated on?

Another thing, in all those flashbacks, it's always shown Shino aiding Kiba with his training, and the two of them aiding Hinata. Not vice-versa. Dude's a covert, black operations specialist. Shino was assisting his father, a Jounin, on missions. Meanwhile, Kiba's going for walks, getting whooped by his butch mother.

Shino's main bugs that we see him use leech chakra. Kiba would need that for his techniques. Also, as other people mentioned, Akamaru would be taken out of the game while Kiba and Shino would be discussing their fight that was about to occur. As soon as Kiba would race in to strike, thinking Akamaru was at his side, he'd simply notice a massive infestation of bugs completely devouring the weak pup. In his moment of emotional instability, Shino'd have Kiba overtaken.
