Sasuke is Naruto's best friend (they have been through many missions together so it's only logical that they became friends even though it doesn't show.). Naruto only wants to be noticed by Sasuke that they are both equal so when they fought, they both fought with everything they had to see who was the stronger one. Sasuke being his only friend, it pains Naruto to see that his friend is running away to Orochimaru just for more power so hehad to try and stop him.

This is not stupid, but rather sad and touching (i had tears running down my face during these episodes.).
