“Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth—in a word, to know himself—so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves.” Pope John Paul II
It definately sounds like some program has gone crazy and started using up all your resources.
One idea is to run through add/remove programs off the Windows control panel and uninstall any/all applications that you do not want or recognise that you would ever use again.Uninstall all browser plug ins while your there, it might be time to download their latest versions anyway. Reboot your computer after, and use it again, see if your system slows down.
The next step I would attempt is to boot into "Safe Mode" and try spybot/adaware/antivirus programs again. Some viruses/malware/spyware disable detection from these programs (even with their latest updates). Otherwise off a normal boot you could try "Root Kit Revealer" if the virus/spyware is sophisticated enough to avoid detection.
As a last resort consider re-installing Windows. A pain I know but if you backup/move your documents & save games to a safe location in the end it's like getting a new computer.
Cheers & Good Luck!
