It might have just been overconfidence, or laziness on the part of the Awakened Beings. At the beginning of the fight, they took out a few Claymores pretty easily, and likely didn't feel too threatened. It's hard to tell from the action sequences in the episode, but I think the fights where they took down those Awakened Beings actually happened pretty quickly. You can see that it doesn't last for long though, as they quickly get surrounded before Easley shows up.
