Did you guys learn to play on your own or with instruction? I plan to take lessons when I go to uni in Austin next year.

I learned on my own, but i've been playing for 6 or 7 years...

Here's a sample from earlier 2006 - my take on Toshiro Masuda's "The Raising Fighting Spirit" from Naruto...

It's nothing special, but then again I only play as a hobbyist. Lessons are good for learning the fretboard, but practice is the only thing that'll make you good... also depends on what style you prefer, some are easier to master than others.
