I hereby recommend everyone UNINHABITED PLANET SURVIVE.

    It´s pure adventure, so enjoyable.
I'm on episode 15 now. I want to continue but I need to finish writing this paper first.

This anime is awesome man. As soon as I read the description it sparked an interest in me. Always fun to see how people get stranded and survive.

Is it adapted from Lord of the Flies?

It seems more like a Robinson Crusoe anime, but you'll probably like the "Lord of the Flies IN SPACE" anime, better known as Infinite Ryvius. A series I have regrettably not been able to see (but really want to).

Sorry for the delay on this one, didn't see the edit.
Ryllharu, you mentioned how i have quite a lot of high quality series in my list...do you know any series that is in the same league of, say, NGE, Naruto, Digimon (or Scrapped Princess), that you say is an absolute must-see? You already recommended a few series, but i dont have the impression that all of these are must-sees (but are still good).
This kind of question really depends on the viewer. Some might say that a particular series is an absolute must see, while others might not. I would like to say that Nanoha A's is a must-see, but as a shonen magical girl series, that only applies to people who watched Dragonball and Sailor Moon Sunday mornings at 6am.

If you're mentioning NGE, Naruto, and Scrapped Princess, I'd have to respond with series like Dragonball (the original) and RahXephon.

    Dragonball because it's...well...Dragonball.

RahXephon because it is a slightly less angsty (not by much), more polished version of NGE. While NGE might be the penultimate in angsty psychological mecha, RahXephon is a little more mysterious where NGE is overt, but no less shy to tragedies.

Scrapped Princess is more of a problem. I find it so unique, there is a lot of difficulty finding something comparable. It's medieval, swordplay, magic (all common), but tied in with absolutely fantastic characters and storytelling that it's impossible to find something similar. Mogudan's unique character design and art just makes it that much tougher to find something alike. It comes down to a stylistic basis, or something else with a unique style that can compete. I find that series like Last Exile and Chrno Crusade are only some of the few must-see titles that can live up to it.

Last Exile possesses this awesome steampunk and bush pilot aesthetic to it, some decent character development (it's been a while, so I forget some). Villains that you immediately loathe on first sight, and a lot of excellent visual and character design. Range Murata provides the particular styling that makes it all stand out.

Chrno Crusade is similar in that way. Take heavy doses of Christanity, demonology, the 1920s, and anime archetypes and smash them all together. A lot of it is just a series of tragedies all bound together through nefarious design or maybe mere coincidence, but it has a style all its own, something only recently re-achieved by series like Baccano or Trinity Blood. Chrno Crusade would be on a must-see list for anything, and while comparing it to Scrapped Princess isn't an ideal, it is one of the first series I think of when trying to compare it.

Hey guys, I'm looking for something a little different this time.

I'm looking for a series I can watch with my roommate. She has specified that she wants to watch an anime with 'cute creatures'. I would like it to be an anime that I won't hate. So, that means no pokemon or anything like that. I thought maybe Denno Coil would fit, but she said it would probably be too scary for her. Any suggestions?

I.. I dunno what you've already seen. something popular.. Death Note? Code Geass? Lucky Star? Clannad?

dang.. "not older than 10 years". if you just look at this past decade, then you lose so many great anime. you lose everything Ghibli that's before Spirited Away, Spriggan, Akira, Golden Boy, Cowboy Bebop, Ah My Goddess, Crusher Joe.. there are so many great series/movies

what about Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar? it might not sound that great, but it's more entertaining than you'd think. I didn't mind it. plus I love the opening song.

Cutesy and Dennou Coil is too scary? This is a true challenge.

Disclaimer: Due to my lack of exposure to most anthropomorphic/super-deformed character anime, this will be skewed more towards cute "characters" rather than "cute creatures."

    - Azumanga Diaoh (for Chiyo, Papa, and the cat) AniDB
    - Binchou-tan AniDB Super deformed, sexy narrator (Inoue Kikuko), but fairly vapid.
    - I will second the motion of K-ON. AniDB
    - Keroro Gunsou AniDB Little more violence, but certainly acceptable by most people.
    - ARIA (Ai-chan, slice of life, Alice-chan, no violence, Alice-chan, President Aria, Alice-chan). I can't believe I didn't think of this before now. 53 episodes to boot.
    - Aishiteruze Baby AniDB Mostly for Yuzuyu, because she is so damn cute and very central to the story.

Last three I have not actually seen anything of, so I can't say much about them.

    - Chi's Sweet Home AniDB
    - Pita Ten AniDB
    - Potemayo AniDB

    Maybe:
Haru + Guu AniDB. Might end up being a bit too crude considering the parameters given.

If Dennou Coil is out, Full Moon wo Sagashite is out, Mahou Shoujo Tai Arusu is out, xxxHolic is definitely out, Honey and Clover is out (Hagu!), Higurashi is totally out, Ebichu is...fundamentally wrong, and I'm obviously watching the wrong kind of series for this.

Ryllharu already covered a lot of good "cute" series, but i have a few suggestions of my own.

Magical Doremi is essentially 3 young girls who discovered a witch and became her apprentice

Daa! Daa! Daa! is about a young girl and boy who are forced to live together due to circumstances. They discovered a lost alien baby along with his robot cat baby sitter, since the ship is broken, the 2 must take care of the baby until he can find a way home.

Kaleido Star: This one doesn't really feature any cute creatures, but it's a good shoujo anime that might interest your roomate (i don't think you will hate it either). It's about a young girl who aspires to become a Circus Acrobat.

I also have to second Ryllharu Ai Baby recommendation, Yuzuyu is just too darn cute.

Lucky Star, I'd say is similar to Azumanga Daioh, if you've seen that. though, I've only read the Azumanga manga for comparison.. but yeah, it's a slice-of-life comedy involving high school girls. it's a pretty easy watch, though I personally don't recommend it in high dosage. if you like K-On, then I'd say you'll like Lucky Star.

Ah! My Goddess is a romance about a loser college student who gets a perfect GF. It's a pretty entertaining watch, and one of my personal favorite romances. but that could just be because it was one of my first shows.. I got it here from AonE after I finished all their Naruto :\.

or, if you want to get back at her for something:
    Narutaru.

sig made by Itachi-y2k5, thanks, dude!
Currently Watching: probably a show directed at 9 years old girls, lets be honest.

You know the important distinction between Batman and me? Batman is fictional. In real life, there isn't always an alternative.

Jungle wa Hare no nochi Guu is definitely what you are looking for. Amazing comedy, with lots of cute (sometimes mainly because they are absolutely weird) creatures. Hare and Guu themselves are cute, so you can't go wrong with this one.

Kamichu! might work, since it does have some strange (which can be cute?) creatures there, and is an overall interesting show.

07/08 animes that shouldn't be missed

I was never much of a poster to begin with so i don't expect anyone missed me : P but i've been out of the anime loop since 06. I've been browsing the forums to pick up sequals / continuations of things i was/had watching/ed ( Serei no Morbito,
Death Note, Bokurano, D.Grayman, Gash Bell anime/manga, One Piece, Clannad, Kanon, Code Geass, Haruhi Suzumiya, Full Metal Alchemist, Utawarerumono, NGE, Naruto manga, Gintama, and Bleach manga).

Most groups seem to have given up on hellsing ultimate due to cease and desists its a shame but it happens. Berserk subs seem to have stalled.... once again

Anyway the point of this thread is what else animes from later part of 2006 to the present would you consider unmissable? As you can see my tastes are pretty diverse and i'll watch pretty much anything (not a big fan of sports anime but there's always exceptions).

So, i'll continue browsing for goodies but would appreciate your input as well.

*edit* i see the mods saw it fit to move my post to this thread. i considered my request less just a suggestion request and more of a best of these two years discussion (similar to the best of 2006 thread i found) but i can understand the interpretation due to my extranneous information... ohh well guess i'm stuck finding them on my own.

whoa, amazing list bro. I got a couple of my own to add, and since I got into the up-to-date anime scene/fansub scene in fall of '07, that's where I'm starting.

    Fall 2007:
    - Kodomo no Jikan, Sketch Book ~Full Colors~, Kaiji,

    Winter 2008:
    - Shigofumi

    Summer 2008:
    - Detroit Metal City

    Fall 2008:
    - Casshern Sins, Macademi Wasshoi, Kyou no Go no Ni, Michiko to Hatchin, Box of Goblins (not fully subbed. (well, the first 8 episodes are pretty good at least :\))

you got a lot of them...

also throw in Eve no Jikan and Candy Boy. not sure when they started, but they're in there somewhere. Eve no Jikan is still running, and should be complete in like September I think.
