I guess in a world where your opponent can instantly swap his body with another object, stop blades with wind and water or reattach his decapitated body with snakes, a sword is pretty much useless.

Lee doesn't look weak to me and he has basically no chakra control. so if tai-jutsu isn't useless, then a sword-user can't be that bad.

so imagine a swordsman with chakra control but speed like lee has, in addition you can't block a sword with your fists
maybe you watched fate/stay night or remember the fictional story about that swordsman in that series... if there are techniques like that there shouldn't be a problem.
oro himself uses swords very often too. its simply not fair to mention for example son-goku with his unrealistic techniques and compare him to a swordman in the real world.
a swordsman in naruto could have some awesome skills too.

btw nearly all anbu members carry a sword am i right?
