Woke up to a bright and sunny 61 degree Fahrenheit morning in the middle of June. I think I'll be smiling all day.
"You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood."

I drove my cousin's tractor this past Sunday and that really put a smile on my face. It was a lot more fun than I anticipated.

I've been to Home Depot twice in two days. Best two visits to a Home Depot I've ever had among all the times I've had to go one of the stores over the 15 years they've been in my area. Super friendly staff helping me out left and right.

Plus, I brought strawberries into work as a snack, and they were really good ones.

I'm a bit of a homebody, so Home Depot and BB&B are two of my favorite stores. There are never enough staff available at Home Depot to help, and those that are there spend too much time with some customers and can't help the rest.

For God will not permit that we shall know what is to come... those who by some sorcery or by some dream might come to pierce the veil that lies so darkly over all that is before them may serve by just that vision to cause that God should wrench the world from its heading and set it upon another course altogether and then where stands the sorcerer? Where the dreamer and his dream?

Yeah, that's usually the case (particularly in the one with the horrible layout, which was the first one in my area 15 years ago), but not at this store. Which I had never been to before Tuesday.

You have to admit though, half the time they're spending "too much time with some customers" is because that customer they are helping is a newbie DIYer who is trying to buy 18 AWG wire to install a ceiling fan, has never heard of a square drive bit, or doesn't realize what a miracle SharkBites are.

And yeah, the guy cutting PVC knows you're making a potato canon. Listen to him, he'll make sure you buy the right parts and glue.

I definitely understand the "you are my only customer" mentality they try to carry, answering all questions until the customer is satisfied. But it makes it tough for customers who just have a quick "where do I find this product" question, which is usually what I ask. I also try not to hog the staff on busy days or when others are obviously waiting for help. Others are not so considerate.

Same, once they point me in the the direction of what I'm looking for, "Aisle X, most of the way down, on the left." I say my thanks and head off.

Again, the people new at DIY work need help, mostly so they don't fuck it up. Everyone's got to start somewhere.

    Consideration goes both ways.

Yes, but you can only help a DIY'er so much, and even then there are a lot of things better left to professionals. If it's one more source of info, then I'm all for it. But people who expect to learn all they need for a project by asking the guy at Home Depot will end up calling a repairman or half-assing it. From what I've seen, they mostly half-ass it.

Let them half-ass it. One mistake can teach more than five successes.

Only if one possesses the ability to learn from their own mistakes, which from my experience is rare.

Yeah, it's not too helpful when they try the first time and then give up forever because it didn't go so well. Or worse, their significant other refuses to let them try again because the first time was such a disaster.

I'm not saying pros aren't useful, I'm sure as hell never going to deal with a leak in the packing of the water main valve, but I'd like to see more people be a bit self-reliant.

I'm with you then, I like self-reliance for myself and expect more of it from others. I'm not so sure the HD guys are the best sources of info though. Some of them are qualified in their field, others not so much. I'll get second opinions most times when talking to HD staff.

Why do you need 2 keyboards though?

What's the benefit to losing the numpad on that keyboard, aside from the space saving? I personally can't imagine doing my job without a numpad.

A workstation is more ergonomic than sitting hunched over a laptop. The screen is too low that way, which messes up your back/neck. Elevating the laptop makes it more difficult to use the laptop keyboard, but regardless, my mechanical keyboard is much more comfortable and efficient than the laptop one anyway. You can feel the tactility in this video.

I rarely use the numpad enough to justify having it, plus it lets me reduce the distance of my hands between the keyboard and the tablet (tablets really take up a lot of space).

It's the Rolls Royce of desk chairs. Definitely recommend you try one for a week.
