Yes one should have a back up plan. That much is a given and Ryllharu said absolutely nothing to contradict that. You however stated

and he simply pointed out that that is not true.

. Wait a minute of all people I should know I cannot win this one so I am just walking away now

You of all people know life is suffering, so how can you doubt shit will get fucked up? Also, I said "if it gets a chance". If you don't have a backup plan, that's just encouraging the universe to fuck with you.

You should know you cannot win this one because you didn't come correct. I covered all my bases.

If all else goes wrong with my studies, I can try switch to a different engineering major (probably civil or mechanical) if I really don't like chemical engineering, but that's unlikely as well.

    Thanks for the warning, Ani.
Fuck it dude, you should go into petroleum engineering and get busy on those tar sands. There's gold in them thar sands.

For God will not permit that we shall know what is to come... those who by some sorcery or by some dream might come to pierce the veil that lies so darkly over all that is before them may serve by just that vision to cause that God should wrench the world from its heading and set it upon another course altogether and then where stands the sorcerer? Where the dreamer and his dream?

    That's the plan!

In this notoriously "evil" province of Canada, most engineers of any discipline will work in the petroleum industry here because of the big bucks. There's actually a specific petroleum engineering major we have at my school dedicated solely for the exploration and exploitation of oil and gas and they get paid more than any type of engineering in this province - the same thing should apply with the US in that the highest-paying engineer job is petroleum engineering. I decided not to go into that major because chemical engineering is so much more diverse and conventional as it can open up pharmaceutical, biomedical and nanotechnological options for me.

I plan to work in the petroleum industry for the early part of my career until Canada starts seeing more green engineering in this country because we all know that in the long run, oil and gasoline isn't going to last us forever despite some claims of oil being able to last for another 400+ years. When you hear news like this, it'd be a shame not to pick up anything that touches up on alternative technology or improving on concurrent systems in terms of efficiency. I can always do a masters in another department of engineering as well so I can make full use of my specialization.

Nonetheless, thanks a lot, guys!! I really appreciate your well-wishings!
