I certainly never liked it either, especially since I needed to reinstall Win7 in the beginning because updating the bios screwed the installation beyond repair. However, I did update the bios to the most recent available for my mobo quite recently, this time going an extra mile to ensure it couldn't possibly spoil the Win installation by detaching the system HD until I had gone through the settings in the new bios version until perfect satisfaction. Afterwards Windows booted significantly faster, without a long wait generated by whatever hardware driver clash that was always present with the old bios. So, it was worth it despite the mental stress.

But they say you shouldn't update the bios unless there's something wrong and a new bios might fix it.
