In a freely distributed local newspaper today there was an article about a guy "seeking perfect sound", like the title put it. I thought maybe he's something like Bill - until I started to read the actual article. It turns out the dude recently spent 60,000 euros to get new stereo speakers. 26,000 of it (yes, twenty-six thousand) he used in the speaker cables, which the article described as short, to boot. The price was so high, the dude explained, because the cables were handmade of gold, silver, and "space metal".

Apparently he had visited a hifi convention and some storekeepers had convinced him that anything less will make the sound unpure.

No wonder a couple of summers ago I saw a Hummer equipped with a subwoofer the size of a freezer in front of a hifi store, bearing the store's stickers. If they find lots of suckers like this guy, money must be flowing in.
