    Try Media Player Classic
    It ran smoothly for me (and my pc is 7 years old). Or do wait for the hardsub as you say =/

    Doesnt work with Bsplayer and its lagfest with VLC. MPC works but I never really figured out how to use subtitles in it.

    Easy.
    Name the srt or ass file exactly the same as the video file.
    example.avi
    example.ass

    and just play the video file... MPC will play the subs alone (having CCCP installed of course)
