I dont specifically remember him saying that. Was that in the manga or is that just an assumption? I recall him only losing the one body to Jiraya. So it took him that long to prepare a new body? And I thought that we saw many containers full of bodies.

It would be very strange if the mentioned delay in their plans was solely because of the time he wasted killing Jiraya

That only makes me think that what cause it was the replacement of his summoning body.
