I thought it was really well written too. It had the same kind of quirky humor that Showtime series are generally known for, but there was a lot of depth to it as well, even in just that first episode.
I liked the dichotomy they put into Jackie. For every saintly thing she does, she does just as many nasty things (sinful might be more appropriate). Like any real person would do after being in her job for so long. The whole organ transplant vein displayed that pretty well. I'm fine with the half-hour format too. They didn't need to drag out any of the many side stories, some of them would have come off a little melodramatic if they had. It was the sort of slice that people in those kind of professions (service industries) get from those they help. You might know their name, and maybe a little bit about them, but you do not need to know their life story (nor do you get the opportunity).
That said, I loved the lunch table discussion about why Jackie is a nurse, and the other woman is a doctor.
I can't say I've honestly watched anything with her in it before, but it was obvious that Edie Falco is a very talented actress.
