Knowing the nature of Deidara's attack, and not knowing the nature of the sharingan, it's normal to assume whoever didn't start running would die.

That is, of course, if you don't assume Tobi is Obito, which hasn't been confirmed yet.

He hasn't shown any skills yet and always goofs off. He still has to prove he's Akatsuki worthy (which he certainly is). Am really interested in him, also the "sayyy, doesn't Tobi sound the same like Obito" post from someone sounds really fishy...

At least I think there's a reason for Tobi to wear a mask:
1. He wants to hide his face, i.e., some people might recognize him. This could be other ninjas or anime viewers. Or...
2. He wants to hide some jutsu, e.g. Sharingan/Byukugan. Not saying that it has to be any of these two, I just can't think of any other at the moment.

Well, both points apply to Obito. Also, their names are very similar. This makes me suspicious, however - it feels more like a red herring than clue. And personally I wouldn't want Obito to be alive.

Maybe the Sharingan got stuck on like Kakashi so he covers that eye (obviously if it was Obito he would have had to gotten a replacement non-Sharingan eye from somewhere, this would be the uncovered eye). Though the explanation for Kakashi was he needed it since he wasn't of Uchia blood, but I imagine it at least takes some Chakara for them as well.

Just playing devil's advocate with the theory though, I'd be disappointed if they did this special feature to show how one of the people close to Kakashi died just to have him be back.

Well, considering everyone in Akatsuki except for Itachi and Hidan is a completely inhuman monster so far(sharkman, I guy with mouths all over his body, a guy sewn together with a bunch of hearts, a heart in a can...)his mask could be hiding any one of a million different monstrous powers.
