It's the opposite for me. I didn't care for them as long as I hadn't played a single VN with them. But after I did (after Tsukihime and FSN), I find it extremely hard to go back anymore to unvoiced VNs. In the end they add one whole dimension to the game so they are hardly irrelevant.

And I tend to cut them midway during h-scenes because there's little point in listening to the guttural voices repeated over and over. Like Bill, during other scenes I most of the time listen through them even though that means extra time. It adds so much to the characters.

David, most games, I dare say, don't provide a voice for the player character. I'd also prefer there to always be one. I don't really identify myself with the player character in VNs so it annoys me when the character is left voiceless, faceless and otherwise vague.
