That is the part my question related to. Either young Eren was a masterful, sociopathic actor OR older Eren did influence his earlier consciousness.

Neither one happens. Eren is influencing the decisions of the Titan that devoured his mother via the Paths. It has nothing to do with sending messages to himself. He cannot send any messages backwards to himself because he doesn't remember receiving them. We have access to his internal monologue, so we know he never received any messages from the future.

Maybe they were puppet titans like the ones Eren spawned (prev gen 9 shifters) that only moved according to his will; just made by Ymir?

The recap movie, Last Attack, just popped up on SubsPlease. Has an added scene tacked onto the end.

Had to rewatch to verify but it is just the last two ovas smashed into a movie with a few minor scene redraws (+ after credits scene as mentioned). It should be the default way to watch the finale from here on out.

It's a scene of 3 people that look/talk/act like Eren, Mikasa, Armin, 100 years after the end of the Titans, seeing a movie in a modern looking city about the events of the series.

It feels like a happy ending, but I'm pretty sure it takes place in the middle of the montage that takes place at during the ending credits. So it's actually kind of a downer considering what happens after.

Were scenes discarded or were the OVAs just joined?

I didn't notice any scenes being discarded, though I'd heard some were/might be. I think the reduced overall runtime is more due to the missing credits scene that bridged parts one and two.
