Oh, right. I misread again and thought MFauli said "so why are all the others talking about the teachings as if they had earned them already?"

Because they are? In the first place Akatsuki is an assassin, so she shouldn't be stronger on the open field than more regular fighting classes. Her strength would be, surprise surprise, striking from the shadows when the opponent expects it the least. Assassins apparently can one-hit kill very high level opponents when they pull it off successfully. But to balance it out, they shouldn't be able to beat a tank face to face in a fair fight. This is also the problem I had with this training: While it no doubt otherwise was useful for Akatsuki, it shouldn't be the easiest way for her to achieve a Teaching, because nothing she did here would grant her an assassin's Teaching, and one would think that's what an assassin ought to gain first and the easiest.

In the second place Akatsuki really hasn't been doing much fighting during the time the players have been trapped in this world. Not nearly as much as the fighting guilds folks who have been slaying monsters left and right, raiding bosses and slaying goblin armies. Akatsuki only wants to stick close to Shiroe and Shiroe wants to weave his nefarious plans in the shadows. Like I said earlier, now that Shiroe purposefully left Akatsuki behind, she should have seized the opportunity and joined some gang temporarily to go out on raids and whatnot. Instead she was drinking tea and eating cakes with the princess. That only makes her fat, not strong.

You´d have a point ... if it weren´t for everybody spotting Akatsuki spying on them from a hundred meters afar. :/

Also, while assassins´ surely have their specific advantages and disadvantages, the extreme you´re drafting here would mean that no assassin could ever hope to be part of a raid. After all, what he´s gonna do against a giant monster? There´s no room for sneak attacks. It´s about dealing damage, setting up buffs/debuffs and healing. An assassin certainly isn´t supposed to do the latter two. So Ill say that you´re underselling her class´ fighting capabilities.

I may have mentioned this before, but if not here it is: I don't think spying for real on your friends is a good idea. Sit there and observe so you don't disrupt, but going into full deception mode is asking for trouble.

You haven't played the Assassin class in Borderlands 2 have you? There are abilities that work with the qualifier "-as long as the enemy is not targeting you".

Nah, it's not nearly as bad as that. Some have spotted her now, but that's because they weren't preoccupied with anything. However, whether it's a monster, an NPC, or a player, if they are fully concentrating on something else, like opponents openly in front of them, Akatsuki's various skills would allow her to sneak behind them and deliver a devastating blow. I'd say she would be a very nice addition to a raid team precisely because of that: In a very small group it might be troublesome to keep even just a single member in the reserve until it's the right time to strike, but a raid team is larger and the others can keep the opponent busy in the mean time. After the first strike it might further nicely divert the opponent's attention if they are wary of surprise strikes from behind. Of course if a small group is led by a glasses villain like Shiroe, it's a different thing.

I'm not selling her short. She's doing it all by herself, forgetting what she is and isn't.

Okay, now you´re both talking technicalities. "If she´s not targeted, her attacks do more damage". Well duh. I was talking about actual fighting skill, like moving, jumping, dodging, hitting, evading, etc.. Not mere stats, which I think would be/is pretty insulting towards Akatsuki. "You´re only good for your bonus stats that are good under certain circumstances". She deserves better than that.

I'm sure she can defeat sufficiently lower level monsters, NPCs, and even players just fine in any manner of an open fight. That wasn't the point. A wizard won't get far trying to crack a fighter's skull with his staff, he has to use his spells to fry the fighter. An assassin similarly can't compete in sheer strength with a fighter, she needs to use the skills and methods granted by her class. It's exceedingly weird to call that insulting. What you are saying is that an assassin should be just as powerful in an open fight as a regular fighting class, but in addition to that they would also have the assassin's special skills and techniques as a free extra. Now that would be totally unfair.

im saying that in a game that has raids and allows pvp, every class should have a winning chance against each other in an open battle. It´s about making the best use of your class´ ability to win. That´s why warrior/barbar classes are often referred to as noob classes, since they dont require as much thought when it comes to such battles, being more "in your face".

Considering this story has tried to show right from the beginning the benefits, no, the absolute necessity of team based fighting and adventuring style (to the point of utter boredom like the Minori eps of the first season), I'm not sure how to respond to your post. Perhaps you are watching the wrong show if you think every class should have an equal chance against every other class in PvP (or every sort of a monster)? Because clearly what you are describing doesn't apply at all to Elder Tale, or the world it's developing into.

Just to add to what Kraco said, Shiroe has mentioned it before that his class can't do anything on his own since he's a support class and in the same vein a healer should also have problems in pvp. As for the fights, Nazuna was part of the Tea group as Shiroe so it's hardly surprising that she would be stronger than Akatsuki, the other battle was 2 vs 1 another practicing tactics against a bigger opponent and finally against Rieze one of the top players in DDD.

You know at the same time, I didn't see Akatsuki go full batshit with her Wind Runs and slashes. It was almost like she tried to fight with regular techniques. She's "weak" in these training scenarios, but she looked almost as good as Souji when they fought the murderer.

Perhaps they're actually training her weaknesses instead of making it a full on spar.

    episode 8 is out
    ------------------

I dont get it. Why had they to shut off magic again? The guy´s sword started crumbling from Akatsuki´s attacks before, so she could have just finished the job without such drastic measures. Also, why were they fighting him for so long? Why not focus on the sword alone? ALSO, why not shut off the magic first, THEN attack him, so his armor is powerless from the beginning? Ugh.

Happy that Akatsuki finally got her teaching, although it still bothers me that apparently really everybody else already had a teaching. This is bs.

Girl at 20:40 saying "Ive never been to a pajama party before" is the cutest thing ever. :>

It's possible we don't have all the facts, but I'd think they wanted to have the operation underway as soon as possible because the random murderer himself wouldn't wait. It looks like Lenessia was only talking with the Kunie dude when the battle had already started. It could be they also wanted the murderous bastard to stick around and not try to flee when he was freed of his magic and thus the bothersome abilities. In the end the fact they did it this way also granted more experience to all the participants. Akatsuki even unlocked her first teaching.

Why? She hasn't been in any really serious, long fights before this, let alone a raid. The teachings would be worthless if one gained them by drinking tea with a princess. The others probably had more stressful incidents under their belts. Although I suppose there could be teachings related to non-combat classes/skills that one could unlock by whatever methods. For all we know Nyanta already has an Iron Chef teaching unlocked...

Akatsuki's development pleases me even though I can't with any honesty call this arc good. The teaching aside, I like what this did to her personality. The socially inept Akatsuki was cute her own way, but from what I can see, this new, more forward Akatsuki also has considerable charm when she's awkwardly trying to express herself and socialise.

Nah, I thought it was bs because I had expected teachings to be for the major leaders only, like, whatshisname-ladykiller boy, or Shiroe, or any of the roundtable members. Not aaaaall their underlings, too. So it felt odd to have the super-competent, skilled Akatsuki to be the one to not have it, yet.

Btw. just when it was established that the explanation text of items is of significance, the blacksmith girl edited the text so it says its weilder is "quiet and socially inept". I mean, lol, if they´re going through with the new concept, that sword basically forces Akatsuki to behave like her old self

Super competent Akatsuki? It took her a full season and a third of the second season to pull off her first major fight and her first raid (or something like it). I dunno why anybody would call her super competent. She seemed quite competent during the northern city incident, but the opponents were fools compared to Shiroe's genius, so I guess it was only relative.

Nah, even with her development, I doubt she will ever be any master of small talk and sophisticated conversations. She might be getting better, but, again, it's only relative.

If I understood it correctly they needed to shut it down in order to negate the way his HP bar was acting and disable his teleportation ability. You need to keep in mind that they made this plan without Haganemushi, in which case the easiest way to stop him would be to kill him and then collect his sword. It's not like they were aiming to destroy the sword earlier since it didn't seem like they could do it.

As for why they shut down the magic circle at that point, they mentioned it already that the sword gave him buffs for every adventurer within a certain radius so they were kiting him around whittling his HP bar down. If they shut it down straight away and swarmed him they might have suffered more losses because of the buffs and if they were in small groups like now he might have escaped once the armor lost it's properties which is probably why they timed the freeze skill. There's also the fact that they had to summon the Kunie clan to a meeting and have them agree on shutting the field down, there's a possibility that he wasn't in Akihabara and needed to travel back after the last meeting. So basically they planned for different scenarios and were buying time until all the pieces came together. At least that's how I interpreted it all.

    Episode 9 - HS

    - - --- - - --

Those three raid bosses didn't look like something that should have been cooperating with each others. They had nothing in common. I hope there's some explanation behind this. If the world becomes less a game, more (fantasy) reality, then different sorts of monsters and villains should be able to work together all the less. Good guys easily work for a common goal, but for the bad guys the worst enemies are logically the other bad guys. I could see the knight and the berserk looking boss somewhat getting along for the duration of a single fight, since they even aren't necessarily evil (they could be drinking buddies for all we know), but the serpent monster? The humanoid raid bosses would have more in common with the adventurers than that thing.

A pity a full half of the episode was wasted on the world of the dead from Shiroe's pov this time.

Moon server, death, real past self in black and white setting.
For some reason, I'm starting to believe the people we have in that virtual reality, are in fact the avatars of their real self that is dead.
The reason for death is uncertain, could be a nuke/large scale fast mass extinction.
Or it could be that all of those people belong to a category of players who died.
I do not think this is just a long term log out with the avatars evolving by themselves.

But their avatars got most, if not all, of what defines them as people: memories/feelings/characters and the way they think and react.
And what is told, is how these avatars evolve in that virtual reality.

And that's why the goblins arc becomes important, each time an avatar (advanturer) dies in that reality, they lose parts of the set of data that builds their avatar. At some point, they might become goblins.

    Just some nonsense here, okay

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening. And then: Golf.

Uhh... Why on Earth would they become goblins? They would become more like NPCs (people of the land) since this fantasy reality would be their only reality, with their past in the "real world" entirely forgotten. Of course if some sadist kept killing a player continuously hundreds of times reducing their psyche to nothingness, then they would become whatever, but so far we haven't seen a city where anybody would have done that. Instead we know for a fact that people who have died dozens of times still know they are players. As the fighting guild leader told Shiroe, players generally don't want to keep dying after a while. So, it's a self-regulating system.
