Many authors are deeply challenged by the philosophy of evil. They think gods (angles) form one front, demons (devils) the other, and the humans are there standing between them. That makes no sense, though. While gods can indeed be a big happy family, it makes zilch sense with demons. They are evil. Villains. They hate everybody but most of all they would hate fellow demons because they are direct competitors. Just like a business enterprise's worst enemy is a competitor in business, not some arbitrary other entity. A demon is always waiting for a chance to backstab another demon.

In fact we have already seen in this story as well that demons are plotting behind each others' backs and backstabbing as well.
