Not to mention, that only pride was on the line in the exam battle. I don't really believe that either Naruto or Neji was truly willing to KILL a friend or neighbor just to further their agenda.

I think, that both Neji and Naruto have such massive potential, that if either truly faced each other in LIFE OF F-ING DEATH situations, that they would be truly be the 'strongest' opponent that each has faced. Think about it, who is more dangerous, someone wrestling you hardcore (Naruto), or someone truly wishing you dead as soon as inhumanly possible. (Kidoumaru)

Ask yourself, who is stronger in both halves of the same person : the person who fights for personal achievement (tournament naruto/neji), or life-and-death for your friends and family (zabuza-era naruto, current neji).

What it comes down to is the blood in your heart, and Neji is dealing it in spades. Naruto has shown him lessons in this, and I bet Chap 197 will show that Neji leaves no lesson unheeded.
