characters are naked 90 percent of the time, on account of being horses.
but they sometimes wear cloths. and one of them usually has her cowboy hat on.

It's kind of hard to tell if you're joking or not...
so i'm going to take it as face value.
No, they aren't sexy human* fuck machines with dicks and tits.
they're horses (ponies, actually), two of them are regular ponies, two are pegasi and two are unicorns, there are other characters, but it's mostly these six.
they're all women (adults), and the main character moved to the town in order to make friends as part of her wizard trainning.
she makes friends, finds artifact of power that corespond with the 'good' qualties her friends exhibit and they vanquish ancient evil with rainbow blasts at the season openings and season finales.
between that, there are episodes about overcoming smaller problems, with less of the world's safety hanging at stakes. sometimes it's purely a realtionship (not-romatic) problem, and sometimes there's a monster hanging around as a plot device to direct the story. Other times the story is just about stuff happening in the town and how they react to it.
the later seasons have a bit more of episodes outside the main town, with more frequent visits to the big city, to other kingdoms and a loosely structured season long theme.

the big emphasis is on having a cast of strong characters with adult dialog and a strong sense of world building.

one of my favorite episodes is "It's about time" (season 2, episode 20), which can work as a stand alone episode.
it's a time travel episode, with a heavy focus on the main pony. it's a great ride, even if you don't know who anyone is and can see the plot point from the get go.

the last episode involved one of them going to a fan convention of her favorite author, which turns into a Indiana Jones spoof with a message of how it's possible for people to like different aspects of books or shows, and that people can have different tastes about a series in different times. which is obviously also about how some fans are saying 'the earlier seasons were better!'.

    * there are actually three movies with the cast as humans, the first one is meh, because the whole thing needs to be set up before it starts, but the 2nd one is much better and I actually really liked the third one. they fit in at the end of seasons 3,4,5.

and if you were joking... well, it's still great, on the level of Avatar and so.

I got nowhere else to talk about the recent episode, so i'm going to do it here.
    A miss.
not the usual sort of miss, that's expected from spike centered episodes.
this one was a missed opportunity to draw the parallels between spike and thorax, which seemed pretty obvious to me, but didn't happen in the show.
both are non-ponies who wish to live in a pony society, one never knew his kind, the other wants to escape his.
spike is accepted and loved because of his connection to twilight (and his past deeds), thorax is feared and hated, but it's pretty clear the situation would be reversed if they were switched in birth. it's easy to envision this episode as a prince and pauper gig (and I'm grateful that they haven't), but it's much more interesting to use this chance to look a bit into racial dynamics in the show. and how do 'adopted/immigrants' feel in society and how does the society treat them when they decide to examine their roots.
besides, spike learning what it means to be a dragon (in a pony land) is the only interesting thing they can do with his character, so why waste an entire episode (took me almost an hour to watch the 20 minutes) on 'it's important to stand up for your friends and tell the truth' message.

Season six is over, and the 4th equastria girls movie is out as well.
kind of weak season for the main ponies, and many episodes focused on the minor characters. some good, some bad.
the season finale was overall good, but it still was a sparkle gillmer episode, so meh. it did work with the cyclic motif in the end, but i didn't like the implications concerning the changelings. but it was still a good finale for the season.

camp everfree was a decent movie, not as good as friendship games, but still better than the first two.
it keeps the same overlaying arc about magic with twilight and sunset, but goes haywire and counters the same point with gloryossa.
too bad zekora wasn't there, it seemed like the perfect spot to introduce her to the universe, especially considering that cellestia and luna (as principal and VP) have no business in a summer camp, and contributed nothing to the plot.
the show still can't handle romance, and besides, isn't bruce much older than twilight? he's a camp counselor / co-manager, so at the very least he should be 20 or more. and twilight is still in highschool, so it's iffy. Flash is as pointless as ever, even though he supposdly dated sunset shimmer before the movies, and they achknowledge that, they still can't do anything interesting with them together. well, at least we had another 'best pony comforts worst human' bits. so there's that.
(which ties to one of the spin offs problems, which is about changing the characters from young independent women to high school girls).
the movie had zero ponies in it, and the new magic powerup origin (which is surprisingly similar to the power rangers trails) means we're are getting pretty close to a complete equestria girls standalone cartoon. which was probably inevitable, but still annoyning, in my opinion.

pinkie pie became gambit, which is nice. sunset shimmer got a plot explaining power that robs her of the opportunity she needs to become a more emphatic person, and twilight can still do everything.

nobody cares. but they aired the first two episodes of the 7th season.
not a two parter, but very solid episodes.

    heavy on the pandarings, though.

the les-vibe was strong in both episodes.
they are practically animating the reaction macros and the tvtropes additions.

heavy appeal to the older, hardcoreder(well, maler) audience.

nobody cares, but that's the point of the entire thread.
they released six episodes last week.
mostly mediocre episode, one really good episode and one which was probably the worst so far (I'm not sure, couldn't stand to watch it to the finish).
three consecutive episodes centering the little girls ponies:
one about an older sister figuring her kid sister is growing up and is now a 'teen' and has more 'teen' interests and has her own life and friends. which was a decent episode, with the B story properly supplementing the main idea. the only problem is the character design models, since ponies who are supposed to be teenagers have the same proportions as ponies who are supposed to be kids, so it's weird having her stand in line with a bunch of identical sized ponies and say she too old for ice cream now.
next was about parental support and being embraced by them, so the kid pony was a viewpoint character that set a different character in collision course with her parents, which ended with that character understanding that her parents constant 'support' and praise did build her confidence in herself. Nothing interesting about the episode, but nothing really bad.
the third episode in the trio was the worst. couldn't watch it to the end from all the cringe. three kids trying to set a romance between two adults when the girl is also being pursued by a suave silver tongued dude and the 'good guy' is a shy farm boy, I stopped when they were planning to steal her wallet so he could be the hero. maybe it became great after that, we may never know.

after that, a decent episode about 'saying what you think' and how just being honest can sometimes be really dickish. which is a lesson some assholes on my facebook should learn.

the best episode was about 'walking a mile in another's shoe', not so much because of the message (which was handled 'decently' at best), and not because of the main character in the episode (I can't stand starlight glimmer, i hate how she gets so many episodes in this season), but because of the focus ponies (the two princesses/gods) and the general mature tone. and I can probably make a point how the dream sequence fight can relate to an underlying conflict between starlight and twilight (but that's mostly speculation).

the last episode in the release was one of the episode that take place in a different culture, which i think means they are describing 'boys' and masculinity traits. not a bad episode, but the shallow message ('boys don't ask for help' is bad, 'asking for help and receiving it' is good) dictates the lukewarm jist of the whole thing. even pinkie pie can't make this episode funny, but it wasn't bad either. I could tie some criticism on the Aesop with what i thought about the bad episode, but it would require me to finish that episode, so NO.

    @shinta|hikari, your comments?

    episode 7.13 another meta-episode.
this time, it's about how the audience criticizes the characters growth and a hint of cyber bullying / shaming notes.
first thing to get out of the way: the part of starlight glitter should have been played by spike, he's better suited to run along with twilight and act as her second in command. and aside from one joke she didn't really have any unique effect on the plot or any personal connection to it.

other stuff: in the start of the episode it seemed the plot is about to revolve around the older 'readers' (AKA: bronies and other adults watching a pony show for girls) and how weird it is for them to be such 'friendship fans' without having real vested interest in forming relations (exemplified by them getting their books signed and then sealing them), which would have culminated in them forming relations with one another over the mutual liking of the book, which fits with the timing of the episode release (brony-con was quite recent).
however, it turned into the direction of how the fans perceive the characters and judge them, parroting common points that the fandom brings up. the characters are effected by it, but it's just a quick scene for each. the heart of the ending is that the book still effected some pony girls and helped them recover their friendship, so it was worth it.
there's also a song, but like the one from the escape room episode, it's too serious to be taken seriously, and i think it might have fit better in the EQG movies.
