Thread: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Tensei shitara Slime datta Ken

Just watched the episode, and didn't recall there were actual monster living there. Were they from Tempest first or were they there all along?

Our human champion got quite handled there in the end. Have we been introduced to good magic users so far? Though he seemed to imply that he was beaten with simple spells. Can only recall powered-up monsters, but not actual legit spellcasters.

We're 3 episodes in, hope there isn't too much setup left to take care of and we can get the ball rolling.

Well, the kids he's teaching at school are all spellcasters.

Honestly, in this series, I'm much more invested in the civ infrastructure building than I am in the shounen battles.

I'm not expecting any actual story lol. This seems to be pure world building civ-game: the anime. It's what I find Kumo desu-ga the better similar anime. Because it has actual stakes and dangers.

So, yeah, I very much agree with Gazel: Rimuru is lacking in regal bearing.
Yeah, that "oh we're so scared by Shion and Shuna" scene was super dumb. Like, why? Why can't some guys go to an escort bar? Does Rimuru have a relationship with them? Do the other guys? No? Then let them have fun, ffs. Or give them some fun. Your choice.

"She's the only non-loli girl in the show, your honor!" will be my defense in court

It's an angry housewife & girlfriend gag scene. Lighten up.

Shuna's line about how it "made her a little sad," is the verbatim cliché line of the passive aggressive but inwardly furious Japanese wife.

Well, you know... besides neophytes. Trying to gauge if we've seen a powerful human magic user to use as a base of comparison.

Not natives anyway. All the kids, Shizu, etc., have been isekai'd.

I think she's the first native mage we've seen besides Youm's glasses dude and the girl from the other three idiots.

Good point, forgot about the ones summoned, but yeah the native mages is what I'm curious about... that said, we don't know if she's native. Or does her hair color give her away?

This. They are both a little yandere over Rimuru, and I'm sure if they others had gone without him, they wouldn't have cared. But they took their husbando to the elf titty bar.

Wait, the kids are isekai'd too? I guess I forgot that...

She works for Clayman, so anyone's guess. I don't think summoning is his thing though.

That's certain nations (like where Rimuru is teaching and they do it en masse, remember that the kids were failures and doomed to die until Rimuru got them spirit bonds) or Cromwell, the blonde demon lord who summoned Shizu.

I forgot about that detail too. I knew they had some issues that put them in danger of dying, but probably is just something of a failed summon or such that doesn't let them adapt properly. I'm sure it was explained better at some point.

Was she introduced before? Don't recall her.

LOL, I forgot about this Youm guy and just thought he was one of the three idiots. The beginning of this season had me going "??? when the hell did he get so strong.."

I think it was after the ED. A few shows have started doing this and it is annoying. They're really short scenes and you don't easily notice that the ED has started early. Fire force did this.

edit: She was introduced right before the ED on episode 26.

If it were up to me, the only thing you'd be allowed to put before the OP is the previous episode recap, and the only thing you'd be allowed to put after the ED is the next episode preview.

Just watched the first three of this season (took me long enough)...

Maaaaan, I knew slime had no tension, but these three episodes really drove that home, in a bad way. It's like the illusion of danger or actual conflict has sustained the non-talking scenes ever since the Orc lord battle in season 1. It's not simply that there is more or less peaceful resolution that bothers me, it's the repetition at this point; like a punchline for a non-joke.

I don't remember the Dwarf king being so chatty, but I don't dislike it.

Aside from Gobta's epic nose/face bleed, the entire hostess bar scene felt like a bit of a waste of time. I felt like saying "We're setting up diplomatic relations, not cavorting with ladies!" The world is changing due to this new nation, and its curators aren't... taking it seriously enough, I guess? How very Japanese, now that I think about it...

Magic and its user's really weren't on my radar, but I look forward to this little sleeper cell being no doubt converted by Tempest's world class hospitality or some such onto the hero's side.

Civilization feeling is spot on, but with the 'cheat' of contemporary knowledge in a medieval setting. I like how modern amenities like hot water faucets are achieved by magic instead of 'practical effects' like water boilers. I guess rune magic really is cheap and convenient, but would Senku approve?

Animation took a small hit from what I remember of the first season, but so far, still looks fairly good.

I liked the titty bar scene because it shows that Rimuru still tries to find time to enjoy himself. It's not just him building a country out of pure altruism.

    That's an excellent point.

Not sure why I missed it or how I completely forgot about it. Thanks!

The franchise is low stakes because Rimuru is so insanely OP, but the shift has started to occur. Things have been set up the last three episodes to build to a conflict, but we just don't know from where and from who.

    - Clayman sent Myuuran to find Youm. Clayman also has a connection with the clown pervert, who we know are spying on Tempest. Clayman was backing the Orc Lord as well somehow, through the other guy. So there's a demon lord involved.
    - Yurazania (beast people) just signed a tentative trade treaty with Tempest. They've stated their demon lord, Carrion, is very temperamental and this is one of the first times they've reached out in a long time.
    - Other nations are surprised how quickly Tempest is getting trade partners. Remember that Tempest as a nation has only been around for a year or two at most.
    - Tempest is getting built in the Jura Forest, which was previously off-limits because of the Storm Dragon that recently disappeared (into Rimuru's belly).
    - Dwargon flat-out warned Rimuru that becoming a powerful trade nation may upset Falmuth, the current trade leader, especially for food, and who have a douchebag for a king.
    - Dwargon would happily prefer getting food and booze from Yurazania through Tempest than get it from Falmuth where they currently do.
    - Youm is from Falmuth.

The strings are all there, just what exactly is going to make them all snap?

My fear is that the strings will sway and stretch, but never snap. There will be almost war or some other cataclysmic event, but it will be averted by the little slime that could, methinks.

    I'd love to be wrong.

Well, we've already seen some big battles in the past... took some while to get going, but we got them. And the players that manipulated those events behind the scenes are still in the game (like Clayman). We'll see, but yeah, it's taking some to lay everything out. Plus we have that scene from last season when Rimuru left the school (which I think is a scene in the future still) of some humans (?) following him. Given that it was shown as the cliffhanger in the last season suggests that it's something to look forward to.
