The message was sabotaged, but the dialogue between them thus far were just assumptions and misunderstandings. All they have to do is stop and verify each other's understanding.

In their defense, given the strength of those involved, stopping means lowering your guard, which they'd probably consider to be too dangerous.

@Buff - Agreed. Each time they clearly expressed they don't want to fight, the author just tacks on a hamfisted thought line basically saying, "It is too late to stop now," even when it clearly isn't.

For the record, I didn't want them to stop, but those scenes were hard to watch in terms of believability. You have a skill whose one purpose is to think for you, and it is legitimately dumb.

Some kind of translation issue in this episode btw?

Shion: "The others evolved into Oni. But I evolved into an Oni."

I understood that as an emphasis on the "O" as a very highly demonic/bad Oni.
    The baddest of them

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening. And then: Golf.

Not necessarily during the fight, but even way before it when they were all talking.

Oh, you got my message? Yeah let's fight. Use a few words man.

Shion: "The others evolved into Oni. But I evolved into an Oni."
Yeah, I don't understand why she pronounced them both as Oni.

Oni is generally is just 鬼.

She mentioned the others were 妖鬼. The subs just call them "Oni". The 妖 is the first character in Youkai (妖怪), as well as Youma (妖魔), and mostly denotes strange. It can also refer to feminine charm, but usually referring to said charm in a negative way, like say a Sucuubus.

Meanwhile, she's an Oni (悪鬼), which the subtitles labelled as "Wicked Oni".
悪 (Aku) does denote evil/wickedness such as in Akuma (悪魔 - Devil), but I've never seen 妖鬼 nor 悪鬼 read as Oni before.

    Just oni.

Japanese authors do this all the time. They write down a set of kanji but invent their own way of reading it via furigana. Like 月 is somehow Light in Death Note.

Right. I never understood how 月 was Light in Death Note.

I dislike this "own way of reading it" thing because it's weird and seems to mess up an otherwise established language system.

Funnily enough English is also guilty of it, to a degree, as in many cases you simply have to know beforehand how a word is pronounced. Theoretically English fiction could thus come up with any number of fancy names that nobody would know how to utter aloud, when simply reading the text. In fact I've probably had no idea what the author might have sometimes had in mind when I was reading fantasy and scifi novels in the past.

Good boy Ranga rolling that guy like a ball.

The transition to this episode felt a bit abrupt since last time it was all about Hinata's fight. Anyway, there's finally someone figuring this shit out.

I'm wondering if the 5 sages that actually showed themselves are just going to get obliterated here.

Obliterated for sure, because Rimuru is actually angry now.

In the LN, it was VERY clear that Rimuru never took Hinata seriously, fighting her using a sword and not using magic attacks. If he just decided to devour her from the start, that fight would not have lasted 10 seconds.

He has no reason to be considerate with these masked molesters.

I definitely feel like the translation is fucking with me now too.

After last week's 'Oni vs. OHni', now we have 'Demon Lord vs. Daemon Lord'.

Fuck you guys! Get a thesaurus!

I may have suggested so before, but the whole sages' scheme plot is deeply flawed. They needed all of these plans to supposedly get rid of Hinata. Hinata couldn't kill Rimuru back when Rimuru was much weaker than now. So far so good. However, this is exactly where the plan should end. There's not a single person in the world who would assume those sages, who needed help to remove Hinata, could face someone powerful enough to deal with Hinata, that is, Rimuru. So, they never should have appeared before Rimuru. Instead they should have continued their plan behind the scenes to accuse Rimuru of slaying the popular Hinata. The same goes for the Falmuth confrontation. The more the sages learned about Diablo, the more obvious they couldn't deal with him alone.

Of course it's dubious in the first place for the sages to kill the best fighter among themselves. The holy kingdom would be much weaker without Hinata. Even if we ignore the huge issue of their own "god" giving the order not to antagonise the Jura Forest.

Them confronting Rimuru and Diablo directly is such a bad idea that at this point, I'm convinced the Sages aren't real. I think they're literally puppets of some other being.

    Molesters?

I'm not watching this anymore, but pls don't tell me genocidal maniac mass murderer Rimuru took the moral highground, because someone did something sexual. I'd be cringing myself into unconsciousness.
