    Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo.

    Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo.

    Genre: Coming of Age, Comedy

Description: Five girls of a high school literature club spend their days reading novels aloud during club activities. But lately, they've been reading more mature novels that include some fairly descriptive sex scenes within them. The pending release of a new novel by one of their favorite authors starts the conversation, "What's one thing you want to do before you die?" One of the girls responds firmly with, "Sex."

That single afternoon starts a series of thoughts and interactions the girls have all over school and at home with each of the girls realizing that their adulthood is rapidly approaching.

    Episode 01
    Episode 02
    Episode 03

    ----------

I waited a while to start watching this series.

    But it is like...really good.

The girls are remarkably well developed within the first episode or two, you get a good idea of each of their personalities, their potential issue/hang-up with the overarching theme, and how each of them attempt to handle it (some of them well, some of them catastrophically in an amusing way). I like Coming of Age stories the most when it isn't so much a gradual progression, but some event or personal conflict that throws the characters into a state or rapidly adapting. And this does that well.

The girls don't exist in isolation either, like some other series. Their classmates are sexually active, and not quiet about it. Their love interests are at various states along the same path. It focuses on the five girls, but they live in a fully realized world.

It reminds me a bit, thematically, of A Silent Voice. It doesn't shy away from reality. It stares it down.

The art is beautiful and fitting. It has this soft watercolor feel to it, and Ishii Kaori's character designs are somewhere between Murata (Last Exile) and Tony Taka, with a moeblob filter over it. They're detailed but soft, is why I'm trying to say, I think.

Great cast, mix of veterans and newbies.

I thought this was going to be just weird, vulgar and gimmicky (like Seitokai Yakuindomo).

Turns out this is thoroughly entertaining.

Happened to watch episode 1 today and enjoyed it. Guess I should stick to anime where killing isn't even an element.

I hope they keep the ecchi shtick to a reasonable minimum. Best part of episode 1 was when it turned into a 'growing up' style slice of life show. More of that pls

Don't worry. He's still mostly into buses so the ecchi is minimal.

    Episode 06

Red-head boy makes a very good point. Is President just glad that someone asked her out, or does she actually want to date him? She still appears to find this shameful.

I only watched epiaode 5 just now. Looked at a certain US.forum and of course these idiots are upset lol. Why? Because this anime dared to portray a non-offending pedophile, and as a successful, artsy guy, too. Because it is common knowledge that all pesophiles MUST be criminals and ugly monsters. /s

I liked the episode. It did a good job pushing forward each girls story without feeling rushed. And the shy club president is bestgirl ofc

    Nobody else watching?

    Episode 7:

Lol, the last scene. First, calling a little child boring, wow, thats cruel.
Then he kisses her. I guess thats not pedophile (Niina is like 15, right?), but still spicy. And then we basically get a Mangekyou Sharingan awakening condition: To reach true heights, you gotta fulfill love even at the cost of your best friend *♀️

Im enjoying this anime quite some, but scenes like above unfortunately kinda ruin it for an otherwise young female audience.

Amongst other reasons, Niina looks great because she alone can break school skirt length protocols and wear it halfway up her thigh.

I'm not sure that it'd have suited anyone else as much, but that's quite a big factor to her package.

Maybe redhead and whitehead would turn into lesbians.

    Episode 10:

It's sad that nobody seems to be watching this, because this anime offers some real drama with lots of discussion potential.

I had to google who again Jujo was - thought that one of tghe main girls got pregnant, maybe the small one with the teacher, although that would have been quick

Sugawara is a real bitch. Turning down all boys in the past, then molesting Izumi + guilt-tripping him afterwards. Then she seems to find lesbian tendencies? I can't stand characters who think they're so much smarter than everyone else, but really only can't decide what they really want - yeah, that's ironic coming from me, oh well.

Izumi feeling bad about getting a boner from thoughts about a girl other than his gf is too hilarious, though.

    Episode 11.

    ---------------------

"Seems to find Lesbian tendancies?". She attracted a lesbian, but I don't understand how that's significant. She's never shown any same sex attraction herself.

I feel bad for the old guy. He got lead on then punched in the face. He's like.. . wtf man?
Dude was just enjoying his coffee 5 mins ago, then got his chicken legs dissed and the lot of it xD.

The whole "hanging around a love hotel = expel" thing is just like the stereotypical Japanese detective work we get shown. Is shit like that even real?

Talking about detective work, I wonder if love hotels in Japan have any other sort of identification system. I get that they're all about secrecy and shit, but I can't be the first person to think that it'd make murders tricky to solve.

I also wonder if the author ever went to school. The whole 'friendly teacher goes to such lengths trying to help a student, he even enters a love hotel with her'. Fuck no. That just wouldn't happen, bitch pls. Only a BAD teacher would go that far. This is such an over-romanticized situation, too idealistic to take seriously.

And perpetuating it makes Japanese schools look really bad.

    Episode 12 - Final.

    ---------------------------------------------

That was pretty good. It felt a little rushed. The "epilogue" was pretty damn crucial to making the ending conclusive. It actually felt like a step backwards for Sonezaki to tell off Izumi for liking someone sexually. She was supposed to be the most progressive of them all (lesbianism aside) as far as understanding sexual relationships go.

The peak of this series was the bonfire confession. All in all, good watch. The ending was rather in keeping with the many other "romance/messes made in teenage years that just came to pass" type of stories where their ending was more or less "we moved on".

Apparently there is a real epilogue manga somewhere and not just and epilogue chapter. I'll see if I can confirm this.
Nope, that is a lie. As suspected, the manga ended at the school, while the anime managed to fit in the epilogue which is yet to be published in manga form till early October.

I found Sonezaki's reaction okay due to how crass Izumi's statement was. But I liked that he actually said it. It's something I myself have issues with, as it's part of the reason why I'd be extremely hesitant to enter a firm relationship at this point in life - and I'm almost 34 :/ Thing is, I can fall in love with a girl. Like, really, trult love her. But I also have so many sexual desires left within me that one woman factually couldn't satisfy, not at this point. It's really hurting my own thoughts, only neutralized by the realization that I don't have a chance at *any* girl atm , sadlol. Anyway, I'd love a story about Izumi's statement. Anyone maybe know an anime that topicizes the 'sexual vs romantic attraction' theme?

The one thing I found silly in this episode was the director of the school being all chill, leaving them at school. That's just too unrealistic and didn't fit with the otherwise realistic portrayal of feelings. But I enjoyed the episode too much to really care, so I guess it's a case of 'rule of cool'

    Good anime

I don't think one woman has to satisfy that. All a partner has to be, is a partner in life.

If they don't cook all that well, there are restaurants. If she can't renovate call the builder. If she can't get you off enough, there are prostitutes and porn.

Look, I'm not a relationship expert at all. But ... unless you go full-open relationship, how'd the latter work out? ;i And I wouldn't want prostitutes. It's more like ... I want asian, black, etc. 🙈 It's silly, but it keeps me thinking 'if I enter a relationship now, I'll never be able to experience that'. I know some of you are married. You ever have these thoughts?
