Koi wa Sekai Seifuku no Ato de

"* Based on a comedy romance manga by Noda Hiroshi.

There are two sides to every coin...light vs. dark, good vs. evil, love vs. hate. Sometimes the line between the two grows thin...and it's so, so easy to cross. So it's no surprise that Aikawa Fudou, A.K.A. Red Gelato of the Gelato Five and hero to all people, just may have happened to fall for the villainess and member of the shadow organization Gekko, Magahara Desumi! But when opposites like these attract, there's more than a few obstacles to their love...! What's a pair like this to do?

Yes! Pretty adorable main couple playing up all the tried and true 'how does dating work' jokes in the backdrop of meeting up during sentai battles. Character designs are cute and there is good untapped potential for gags if these characters are utilized well. I still haven't tired of the joke of making evil world dominating organizations into your average sized Japanese bureaucracy. Definitely recommended.

The joke quickly wore out, but thankfully the side characters put in real work to keep this worth watching. The humor and side gags with little bit of world building are still a strong draw for me. Details taken for granted during the first two episodes (like how Desumi became a villain) are revisited later for joke material and it is fun and unpredictable. Too many cute gags for a comprehensive list, but some highlights for me are the beast princess's rivalry, both of the lead's parents being perfectly embarrassing but sweet, and Dr. Light tossing back cold ones because "this part of the Megazord isn't really that important..." like a true government employee.

Recommend giving this a shot if you haven't.

Desumi best girl of the season.

    If anyone disagrees, they're wrong.

She has a good balance of air-head, girly-ness, and a good sense of awareness (she knew Fudou wouldn't cheat on her and was mad instead at herself for being jealous; her awkwardness is simply fueled by super strength). At the same time, she's not caught up in over-romanticizing of her situation and remains down to earth. She is a fine catch.

Fail because of gorilla, or... almost?

Little sister is cute, and the way Fudo and Desumi casually flirt and joke is the right kind of wholesome for me. Usually in anime, couples don't advance beyond the timid courtship phase where the couple agonize over if their relationship is even viable or real. Glad to be comfortably past that here.

The 'family business' storyline was interesting, and not one I see enough of in anime. That particular dynamic is refreshing and had some good payoff (there is an art to Shakespearian death, after all).

The photo mission at the cultural festival had more build up than was necessary for something that ultimately was a nice aside. They make such a cute couple that I don't mind just seeing them interact at this point.
