you're right, not knowing about someone doesn't neccessrially make him less cool, but that's when not knowing has some sort of effect on the story, right now, Shino is a side charecter, with about the same importance and Kanaraku, Kiba and Tenten, i really don't see a reason for Kishomonto to give him such a mysterious aura...
think about a hypothetical situation... what if Haku would have really killed Zabuza, and he would have apperead once in a while to kill someone and then disapper again? without knowing anything about him other than the fact he's strong...
would you call Haku cool in that situation?
cuz for now, that's exacly how i picture Shino.
by the way, are you watching Avenger? Layla has a Shino thing there, she's the main charecter, she says almost nothing, in 12 eps we've only learned two new things about her, and she is a lifeless and annoying as she was at episode one...
