As he himself said...`Why is there so big a difference?` or something along those lines. Kakashi can beat the crap out of Sasuke without breaking a sweat, and Itachi can pretty much hammer Kakashi, (probabaly getting wounded in the process). So Sasuke really isnt anywhere near his level...hes faaar, far away. Not to mention if he keeps pulling stupid stunts like going to Oro, etc...hes just slowing his progress down in the long term. Another thing, even if hes amazingly more powerful as time goes by, Itachi is ALSO improving, so he mantains a constant and huge gap in power.
if you havent noticed the cursed seal increases Sasukes power tonnes, level 2 will increase it far more then Sasuke would ever achieve by himself.
Itachi left the leaf because he could no longer become stronger there seeing as he already killed his clan, the main reason that Itachi left Sasuke alive that we know is to beat him.
Sasuke is there to one day beat Itachi, thats what Itachi wishes him to do but obviously only when he thinks hes a worthy challenge.
Kakashi WAS keeping up with Itachi before the mange sharigan, he had to save Asuma and Kunerai most of the time thats why Itachi was winning. I suggest you read again you'll notice that Kakashi could have still fought for a fair while with Itachi if he didnt try to take the mange sharigan on head on.
Kakashi thought he could counter the mange sharigan with his eye thats the main reason why he was beaten so badly. Kakashi has the bad habit of making mistakes the first time around as seen vs Zabuza. If you ask me Itachi is over rated just because he beat Kakashi with the mange sharigan, i mean Zabuza came close to beating Kakashi too many times.
this is NO way shows that Itachi can take on someone of Jiyairas level, Kakashi and Jiyaira are at a huge gap in terms of power.
Even if Itachi can beat Kakashi it doesnt bring him close to Jiyaira by any means
Itachi Uchiha can probably beat Orochimaru, why not Jiraya...?

Orochimaru uses alot of seal based jutsu so that makes it easy for Itachi to copy all his jutsus, Orochimaru spent his life accumilating jutsus and do you think hes going to let Itachi copy them all?
as for people who say that since Itachi is feared by Orochimaru that he can easily beat him - havent you ever feared something like a spider? doesnt mean you cant kill it does it, the capicity to kill it is still there.
Jiyaira and Orochimaru use completely different fighting styles, stop thinking that everyone is exactly even against everyone else.
Insomniac, Oro said Itachi was more powerful than himself, not that he was just scared of him. While Oro and Jiraiya both have different fighting styles, I think that they are equal in strength. Jiraiya already tried to capture Itachi and failed, so my bet is that Itachi is stronger.

if Itachi was truthfully stronger then Jiyaira he had Jiyaira outnumbered two to one, Kisame and Itachi both were able to fight but they opted to run.
Even IF Itachi was too 'tired' to fight Jiyaira it still doesnt explain why Kisame and Itachi didnt fight him at the same time if we're yet to see all of Itachis powers.
If we're truely yet to see all his powers then why wouldnt he have accomplished what he set out to do, instead of failing.
even if Orochimaru and Jiyaira are even when fighting each other it doesnt mean that other people will be able to defeat both of their styles by simply being stronger then one of them.
think of it as when Tenten fought Temari, it was the worst match possible for her as Temari could deflect her only attack, while if Tenten was matched up against someone else who couldnt shes strong as she never misses unless forced to.
its the same principle - Orochimaru uses seal based jutsu which Itachi can copy which means Orochimarus main weapon is useless while fighting Itachi. It doesnt mean that Itachi can beat everyone on Orochimarus level though, it just means that Orochimarus main attacks cant work against Itachi.
That means that other people of Orochimarus level that dont rely on seal based jutsu will do far better against Itachi. such as Tsunade

Itachi uses his mange sharingan twice with a small window of time between them and it had obviously exhausted him alot, the fact that jiraiya even dares to say that they couldn't escape from the toad mouth binding technique had me lmao Itachi burned a way out so easily and Jiraiya was amazed by the high level fire jutsu so far people who claim that Jiraiya is on the same level as Itachi are fools and should shut their mouths, Orochimaru is weaker, why would he fear some one when he is stronger???????? also the reason for Itachi and Kisame to run was already answered by Itachi, they just made sure that Naruto was the nine-tails so they could lay back rest and come back any time to get him there was obviously no reason to rush, conclusion is until they face eachother will Jiraiya be owned by Itachi it's a fact any and all jutsu used by Jiraiya will be copied and handled with or send back at him, why even try to defend the power of a charachter when obviously Itachi is way stronger he's a TRUE succesor or MASTER of sharingan he can read all nin, tai and gen-jutsu so Jiraiya isn't really gonna do anything without Itachi being able to read and counter it

I truely want to belive you.... But... I think that the "good" side will conquer... I want to belive that Itachi is the strongest... but i don't think he is... Every Shinobi has a week spot, probably kakashi or a kage can come up with a strategy to defeat him... But i don't know for sure, because i was totaly shocked when i read&saw him in the manga it was like "AWESOME"...

Sasuke is the second worst character(only second to Sakura) in NARUTO, but has nothing to do with him so i digress. Itachi would probably have gone on to become Hokage. I mean let's face it, this is the strongest ninja in the series so far, even Orochimaru is scared of him!!
Hmm I agree that Itachi is a very strong lad but Jiraiya is not to be underrated even though he is a crazy old perverted man hehe. I mean he could have been Hokage if he wanted to, and as Itachi_ said the good guys are often stronger.
I do not know who would have won between Itachi and Jiraiya but it is indeed a close call. But hmm I think that I would put my money on Jiraiya afterall..

He cant exactly turn a 'oh i'll turn good' without some lame plot turn because no one will forgive him.
He himself made sure that Sasuke lived to kill him one day, i think its kind of useless to be fans of someone who only gets 15 minutes of fame.
