For a start your not japanese ... idiot (see not baka)

And he looks nothing like a monkey Kishimoto was actually going to make Sarutobi a fox and they kept the fox like features in his character designs. I read this on a website and when i get home from college i will did out the link and show you the original designs with him on the hokage mountain the character designs and the whole interview.

Well another possiblity is that Sarutobi is his only name. Kinda like Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade. None of them really have surnames.

That's actually what I was thinking. In older Japanese eras, people of lower classes didn't have last/family names (myo) unless they somehow earned them or were granted them as a favor by a daimyo. In that case, their name was turned into a surname and then passed onto their descendants. Perhaps, since the 3rd came from the early era of the Leaf, he didn't come from a noble family and distinguished himself by eventually becoming Hokage. From then on, he wanted to pass his name on as the family name to his children.

Granted, this is only speculation. But perhaps Asuma isn't directly related...he could always be a nephew or cousin, hence why he's not particularly close to Konohamaru.

Maybe Asuma and Konohamaru are close, we've never seen them together. We don't see them 24/7, who's to say they're not?

but if sarutobi didnt have any other name and didnt get one even tho he became hokage and no one of the sannin got a surname isnt it strange that sakura got one?

I get the impression that Sakura is from a high upperclass family (in terms of wealth, not nin skill) so maybe that's why she has one. It's just a hunch I have, from seeing her house early in the series and just from the way she's been brought up and acts.

Where have people found out surnames of several jounins like Maito or Sarutobi (Gai / Asuma)? I don't recall ever seeing them in the anime or manga. Are people citing these from websites? The only one I can remember is Kakashi's (Hatake) because he tells team 7 when he introduces himself.

then we can assume they dont know each other at all.
theres no way they could be related and never even talk, its an anime - if they're related it would have hinted at it at least once.
theres no need for them to be related either for story terms.

Someone told me that in Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen 2, the profiles section has spinning Kabuto cards for all the characters, and that Asuma apparently is REALLY good if you go by the stats alone. And by good, he meant REALLY good.

On a side note, Baki (The Sand Jounin teacher) is also ridiculously good and Hinata is the worst in terms of overall stats.

Though that could probably answer you guys' questions in terms of his abilities, if you could get a translation of that card.

Um....you do know that in Japan it is considered rude to call someone by their first name, unless you are family, or if you know them well (though nobody calls me Kakenuma-kun, just Yu-kun)...

11. #11
Yes, Haku no Fuyu-san, that's a good point, but all the genin seem to call their teachers by their first name, and nobody ever addresses the Third as anything other than Hokage-sama or Sandaime-sama with the notable exception of Orochimaru. Actually, I believe that Orochimaru is the one who reveals the Third's name to us for the first time in doing so. With the other genin's tendency to address their sensei by the first name, and Orochimaru's notable lack of respect for his sensei, this makes me think Sarutobi is the Third's first name.

So...then all ninja are rude?

13. #13
I really can't believe people still don't believe that Sarutobi-sensei and Asuma are related.

I think that the 3rd was close to becoming Hokage at the time he trained the Sannin and was highly respected, that is why they called him by his last name, Sarutobi-sensei.

Also Sandaime and Asuma...

JUST LOOK AT THE TWO OF THEM!

They both look a like, well as much as a 70 year old and 26-28 year old can...

I look for Asuma to be taking over the summoning chores of Enma perhaps later, or maybe another kind of monkey.

They are related, its so obvious they don't even have to state it.

They are also the ONLY TWO people to wear the Recca (Fire) Symbol on their clothing, Sandaime has it on his back and Asuma has it on his sash. Might not mean anything, but come on, lets be honest.....it might be a hint.

14. #14
First, Konohamaru, who we know is related to Sarutobi doesn't wear the symbol, so it's not a family thing.

Second, compare pictures of Sandaime when he was young with Asuma, they don't look alike at all. In fact Sandaime looks more like Shikamaru's dad.

Erm... in fact, the pictures of young 3rd led me into thinking that Asuma and 3rd are related.
I thought they look rather similar. Anyway, this is just my opinion.

i havent ruled out the possibility of asuma and sandaime being related...i think that maybe ninjas in orochimarus day were probally more respectful to elders...moreover i want to not a few things

1. we dont know konohamarus last name so its impossible to say that asuma may be his father because he may be the son of the hokages daughter

2. to play devils advocate...looking like some one doesnt mean that they are realated...we may have all been told once that we look like a particular celeberty

3. it was noted by someone (i dont feel like looking for it again) that all we know about naruto and yondaimes relation is their resemblence and we dont know that fourths name... well... theirs a good chance that naruto made his own name up

4. who is that black haired kid with the straw in his mouth that was trained by the fourth with kakashi...i think it may be asuma

17. #17
That kid is more likely an Uchiha who got killed during battle due to a mistake of Kakashi. I think Asuma and the sandaime are related but just not very close.

RE: Asuma-sensei

The person with the black hair, could be Asuma, could be Genma (dude with toothpick), could even be a dead person.

We'll probably find out soon enough. Along with if Asuma is related to Sarutobi or not. For now we can't assume they are.
