i'd be surprised if itachi IS the strongest of the akatsuki
it would be very uncharacteristically "anime" of this series to have a mysterious organization of people with great power, but have the strongest of that organization be one of the first villians ever mentioned in the entire series.......

although then again.....i guess i could see that happen.....
but in this case, i expect there to be some people stronger than itachi
