RE: METAL!!! \m/

Today I discovered a fucking awesome new band, Turisas. They play what they call "battle metal" though the exact definition would be some kind of power/folk with growls. They make really atmospheric music and it's truly great, with big choirs and whatnot. They sound a LOT like Bal-Sagoth. Which is a big + for me
Interesting, I'll have to check them out. The description sounds similar to Battlelore, check them out if you haven't.

@PossiblE: Turisas is indeed very awesome, my favorite song with them is Battle Metal but I like their albums as wholes and not invidual songs actually.

@KitKat: Of course they are hasudifhasifhpahffbawf! My taste is supreme. DragonForce is insanely cool.
After Forever is not unknown at all, in fact, they are among the most popular bands in Holland from which they hail. The singer Floor Jansen also has a sister in another metal band, unfortunately I forgot which. They are often compared to Nightwish, but vastly inferior if you ask me.

I'm currently listening to Rammstein's new album "Reise, Reise". The german industrial band delivers quality music as always. Love 'em!

Anything along the lines of DragonForce is hard to say because they are very unique.

But if you want more heavy stuff with the catchyness of In Flames, try Norther and the 2 recent Children of Bodom albums.

Is anyone other than me a big sucker for folk metal? I love it SOOO much. I just love folk music, mixing it with metal is brilliance.

Some of the best folk metal bands:

Mago de Oz
Elvenking
Skyclad
Finntroll
Ensiferum
Wuthering Heights

Feel free to add more...

Add Moonsorrow to that list. I never knew about Mage de Oz, Skyclad and Wuthering Heights, guess I will have to check them out.

That you should. And I'll have to check out Moonsorrow

Edit: Moonsorrow was cool

For some reason I'm really stuck on Bodom's She is Beautiful right now :S

Heh, She is Beautiful is definately an interesting cover. So far I've only been able to find Wuthering Heights, but lately I've gotten into some black metal, Immortal is fucking awesome.

phew .. missed this thread =)

and , excuse me if I'm mistaking, and although the mix-up is understandable, I thought Metal and Goth were still two seperate things. Not that you do not encounter both at rockfests, but You always see the differences. For example, goths always crowd to the front of the stage as soon as nightwish or after forever (etc) enter, but they tend to just hang in the back when bands such as Slayer or Bodom enter.

Personally..hm.. Well I've got quite a widespread taste.

Ive got all complete albums of (except for the latest of Rammstein)
:

A Perfect Circle
Annihilator
Apocalyptica
Audioslave
Blind Guardian
Children of Bodom
Deicide
DIO
(one Album of Finntroll (Finnish band =) )
Gamma Ray
Helloween
Iced Earth
Judas Priest
Kreator
Manowar
Megadeath
Metal Church
Metallica
Nightfall
Nightwish
Nine Inch Nails
Opeth
Queen =)
Rammstein
Saxon
Slayer
Testament
Therion
Tool

My favs are Circle,Tool, Rammstein, Finntroll, Bodom, Slayer, Metal Church

Working on my future Warhammer Online journal, criticism demanded. Yes it's supposed to be that size.

RE: METAL!!! \m/

I hope you aren't insinuating that Queen is metal

Of course metal and goth are different things. Metal is music, goth was originally a style (from "gothic") often affilated with the middle ages. Since it was often dark, it has lived on and has become a style of clothing and music style. Hence why goth music is often depressing & dark. "the goths" as you call them are people wearing these dark clothes and whatnot. I don't know what goths would do in front of Nightwish though since it's as far from gothic metal as you can get...

goth chicks can sometimes be hot, but the whole cutting their wrists thing is a major turn off. whats the deal with that anyway?

but generally goths are funny and there are loads in edinburgh city centre all the time so its like going to the circus everytime i go shopping

What is considered gothic music? I thought goths listened to metal genres... like doom and black metal?

Dark, serious music. Often accompanied by violins and lyrics about broken hearts. That is generally considered gothic music. Note that gothic is a genre in itself so there's gothic rock, gothic metal (of course) and even gothic pop. There is a significant difference between gothic metal & doom/black.

Good examples of gothic bands are Type O Negative & Entwine. Listen to those and you'll find out what gothic metal is. It's a good genre to listen to when you want some emotional music. I'd point out HIM as example too as they actually are gothic, but they suck so much that I won't bring myself to doing that...
