What is a massacre? When someone kills you so quickly and efficiently that noone even NOTICES the fight.
Massacres so far:
Kazekage's defeat.
The Uchiha clan's defeat.
Seriously, how can the Uchiha clan be so powerful that they couldn't even get ONE runner out to warn the rest of the village? And how come the fight was so fast and "unnoticible" that no one else in the village noticed?
what Zabuza(sp?) did in the mist villages during the chounin exam...
does that count as a massacre?
not everyone in the clan was a ninja, and even if they were, the sharingan does not appear in all uchiha members.
i'm guessing the fight was unnoticed by the rest of konoha because it was towards the end of the day, the lights were off, itachi is a total badass anbu member, and we don't know the details of the entire slaughter. for all we know, it might not even have been his entire doing.

All the Ninja's on operation front line during the Konaha Crush were Massacred. I guess Kabuto taking out the Anbu that were guarding Sauske counts also.

I know that compared to the Hyuuga clan the Uchiha looked week. I mean Itachi took them all out, so they where that weak. Hell I think if someone tried to do that in the Hyuuga clan they would be out of luck. All them are pretty bad ass. I just can't see him killing the whole village and not a person or a group of people who know everything about the sharingon couldn't put up more of a fight against him.

About the massacre and the village- I think we will find out later in the story that there was much more going on that night than we know now. Either Itachi was just a psycho out to test himself (to see whether or not he could kill everyone, not to see if he was the strongest, imho), or there was something wrong with clan that only Itachi could see or predict. and he acted to stop them.
Just my speculations though.
BTW: Did anyone else not think that the only reason Sasuke survived was because he was the only one who asked for his life? He might have been the only one to beg for his life. That, and his hesitaion before opening the door to the room where his parents were killed (when he heard movements before, which I think was meant to imply that they were still alive just before he barged in) are the real reasons why Sasuke is such a dick now- he hates himslef for his cowardice and has never forgiven himself.

It doesnt necessarily have to involve really large numbers like you think chambers. The boston massacre that helped kick off the american revolutionary war only killed 5 people. Yet it was considered a massacre mostly because they were innocent people that had nothing to do with the inherent situation. So Kabuto killing the anbu can be considered a massacre.
massacre has slightly different meanings based on the situation
if soccer team A beat soccer team B by a score of 4-0, that can be considered a massacre
it basically means you kicked someone or another groups arse badly.
I bet Itachi just wanted to see if he was capable (from a moral perspective) of killing all his own people when he was on his way out of konoha. It obviously gave him a badass reputation and that might have been part of what he was going for. I think in Japanese culture there's a lot of emphasis on the "village/group" working together and that the people put the better of their peoples ahead of themselves - unlike americans [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif[/img] So, him killing his clan is even more horrific in Japanese culture. is it possible that for itachi to obtain the mangekyou sharingan, that he had to slay his entire clan, sortof a blood ritual to obtain absolute power... although this would be hard to proove if sasuke ever obtained mastery of the sharingan

its possible, but highley doubtfull. i think it would have been stated that to gain it he needed ti kill people opr his clan or whatever. as people such as kakashi havent said anything abotu this despite knwoing of the techniques its highly doubtfull.
