That's a bug that happens when you go through the first time portal WITHOUT activating it. You need to load your game and activate the sand portal by running up the switches on the 4 pillars in the right order. You'll know the portal is active when you see sand start swirling all around it.

If you saved after using the portal then you're shit out of luck and need to restart the game.
yea. i heard about that but i havent tried it myself. they're putting it as a cheat now instead of a bug
