Lotus in and of itself is straining. Lotus with one gate is something that shouldn't be done twice in a fight. Lotus with 5 gates ... that's enough to literally crush his own bones into fragments.

Imagine every muscle energized to the point that every attachment point between muscle and bone has gone from its normal force to forces the scale of a jackhammer. Every time your body automatically rebalances forces to keep you standing, it's like every bone gets slammed with that jackhammer force... add to that breaking into a sprint and executing an extremely difficult move that already had that effect.

The term used by the medics at the end of the fight was "comminuted fractures" -- his bones were functionally turned to powder.

I think it's pretty reasonable to expect some of those shards of bone to end up in bad places in general.
