Yeah, if you never played the game this movie would make absolutely no sense. Scenes of Zack out of nowhere, Aeris popping in and out, Sephiroth, Jenova, etc.
How much of the game would you have to play anyways? My brother wants to watch this, but he didn't make it past Nibelheim since he got bored (he's not an RPG player). Regardless, he watched bits and pieces of me playing, but I don't think it's enough to understand, so recently, I had to tell him a few things, like the Jenova project, Cloud's actual past, etc.
Anyways, question again is: how much of the game would you have to play to understand the movie?
i'd say beat the game. but really all you need is like up to the part where you learn about cloud's past and jenova (things you've mentioned) but he kinda needs to know who sephiroth is and also know that technically cloud and co were supposed to kill him (in FF7)

Anyone wanna summarize FF7's story for me? Or everything I need to know about to understand the movie since like I only played a little bit of the game since I don't own it.
Well you gotta play it and UNDERSTAND it. Some parts of the game take a bit of thinking to understand.
i seriously recommend you buying it, and playing it because the game is a hell of fun and you'll feel ripped if you dont play the game first. (you wont really love the movie without loving the game)

I love the game though, if there any other way then buying it since I won't be going like to a gamestore till the weekend. Like a ROM or something? I've only played up to when you go to Barret's house or w/e.
how can you be a leader and a clone? a clone is more of a follower cloning other people's actions, yet your a leader. and that gundam wing question was pretty out of place...

Well, it seems like I'm the only person who hasn't seen the movie yet. You might ask: "WTF STOS...WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!11!!?" My reply is this, I rather wait for a legitimate fansubber to encode/sub it before I watch it. I'd like to get the full DVD quality with nice fansub work from a group I can trust. Now you might ask: "Well, who is going to do this?" Well, the great guys from our own AnimeOne have decided to complete this task. Looking at this l33t post on AonE's blog, they seem to be working on it and plan to "bring the house down to all the posers/noobs who are gonna release sub-par versions." So I will be faithful to AonE and wait untill they release it. That's just me, I'm picky when it comes to these things. I'm glad though that it seems like an incredible movie and I hope to watch it soon. Anyway, that is my post for the day...later
