From my knowledge, this will be a 3 episode OVA that will cover chapter 176 to 183 of the manga.
This seem to be mostly a fan service thing for the manga reader because the Festival arc which took place right before these chapters was never animated.
The original Negima anime cover up to about chapter 53 (while also leaving out several important events and ended with an anime original ending).
It's quite a shame that negima never got a proper animation that follow the manga especially since the story really picks up after where the anime ended. The most recent chapters are quite excellent and in my opinion is preferable to more popular manga like naruto and bleach which have been garbage recently.
As for the episode itself, the animations are quite good and the sub is decent enough. The contents of the episode is nothing significant since it cover the aftermath of the festival arc and mostly consist of comedy.
I'm just hoping that this will somehow lead into a proper TV series for negima.
The Ala Alba arc is one of the worst of the manga. As a loyal manga reader of Negima I am quite dissapointed they decided to animate this useless arc instead of the awesomeness the Festival Arc was...

I downloaded the ova finally and loved it. It wasn't the useless training arc as I expected at first, but the very battle before entering the Magic World.
If you haven't been following the manga you'll be totally lost, since this ova are faithful to the manga and don't follow the crappiness of the previous two animated series. You won't find multiple useless pactios or random chupacabra jokes here.
The ova has a slight summary of what happened since Negi fougt Chao in the school festival all unto the end of the boring training. The ova itself covers the part when the other classmates try to steal the ala alba badges in order to join the White Wing club and go to England.
Its very refreshing seeing a GOOD animation of the manga, plus having the all loyal to their manga version... that is... no change of colors nor failure at life jokes.
Plus... its got Kotarou and Albireo for the first time.
Ova 2 should be arriving soon, since it was released some weeks ago.
