I think Kakashi's dogs are a different story, they're similar to Jiraiya's frogs, where he summons them and depending on the amount of chakra he uses he gets a different frog.

And I dont think Akamaru has grown at all, it's probably a breed thing. You see that Kiba's mum had dogs that were obviously going to be large in size as they grow older, but Akamaru doesnt look like the breed of dog to be that big...

Akamaru seems like a pup to me. I'm kinda hoping he will grow up to be a big dog like the ones Kiba's parents have. Where else can u get a dog that can use a jutsu to become a clone of yourself?
