Kankuro had to do something productive before he passed out. Like maybe got an undetectable charka string wrapped around the Scorpion tail to use as a tracking device.
Wait a sec... was there a few pages missing from that scan or did the story skip a bit there? Kankurou was on the ground on the 1st page... and what happened to his other two puppets??
nvm. I see on one of those overhead views that the salamander puppet is there in pieces. And the scratch marks in the sand would appear that they are from Sasori's tail, so they skipped the battle.

don't worry they'll probably extend the fight in the anime to a couple of episodes like they did with temari vs tenten...
