Live The Dream - Develop a Game

I had a vision for the future of gaming, so in 2007 I started my first video game company. You see, I believed that gaming was an incredibly powerful tool and that gaming could change the world. Being a die hard gamer and developer, I am constantly amazed at the GREAT ideas in online forums and social groups dedicated to gaming. Yet, it seems as if shortly after the idea is thrown out for general discussion, others take the conversation in the direction of what is the HOTTEST platform and BAM; another dream is dashed.

Do not allow anyone to kill your dreams because they are die hard 'buyers' and you are a die hard DREAMER. To make game creation accessible to anyone was my life's mission and made available to anyone who was willing to put in a little but of time and effort.

Believe it or not, it is most often beginners who have the greatest gaming ideas because they haven't been tainted by working within industry 'norms'. Remember this - there is someone JUST LIKE YOU working at those companies who create your favorite titles!

With all of that said, I made the leap and created a course aimed at beginners which unlocks the amazing creative power of Unity3D. While I'm teaching you the basics of Unity, I also be revealing the fundamentals of what games are made of and begin to show you how to harness the power of play.

Myth 1: The Typical Gamer is a Geeky Teenage Boy

The entire gaming industry has been turned on it’s head over the past decade with casual gamers overtaking traditional hard core gamers and mobile devices overtaking traditional game consoles.

If you imagine the typical average gamer today as being a geeky teenage boy, you’d be completely wrong. Try thinking middle age females over forty! Nowadays that gamer could be your 6 year old nephew, your 90 year old grandmother, and everyone in between.

Children as young as 5 are learning their alphabet via games designed for mobile devices like the iPad and iPhone. Housewives looking for a momentary escape are playing puzzle games and seniors are engaging in games that stimulate and maintain their brains.

Myth 2: Only Big Companies with Deep Pockets can Afford to Create Games

While the realm of commercial games was pretty much off limits for most people less than a decade ago, things have changed quite a bit since then.

Technologies that used to cost tens of thousands of dollars have now become inexpensive or free. Today just about anyone can get their hands on game development software like Unity 3D, UDK and the iOS and Android SDKs and begin the process of learning to create games for Macs, PCs, the web and over 1 billion mobiles devices!

There are many more myths however, you have the dream, resources and most of all, CREATIVITY to create a game! What are you waiting for?
