There needs to be a moratorium on Gundam shows until we figure out what's going wrong.

- stop trying to reach a "younger audience.
- if the above results in bad viewing numbers, put the franchise on ice.
- try again with a proper Gundam-anime every few years. Maybe do movies instead of series.

Gundam Build Fighters is about as kid targeted as the franchise gets, and despite being Angelic Layer with gundams, it's still actually rather good.

Slowing the series down hasn't helped Macross. Delta was so generically terrible that Studio Nue gave the franchise to Sunrise to fix.

Fundamentally, Sunrise/Bandai have been just getting too cowardly and don't take their series all the way without backing off at the climax of the series. Happened to Witch from Mercury, happened to Geass three times over, happened to Valvrave, it happened to 00.

About the only series where they decided to go really hard in the third act was...Iron Blooded Orphans actually Buddy Complex, and that started off too reserved...and Idolmaster Xenoglossia which was just incredible all around despite its absurd premise and IP mishmash.

I don't really think the issue with Geass and Gundam 00 is a refusal to commit to something.

Geass ends pretty well and the mess in the middle with the dragged-out season 1 cliffhanger -> season 2 soft reset on the plot is because they clearly had no idea where the story was going, not because they refused to commit to their themes or characters.

00 gets off on the wrong leg immediately by having the Char character pretty much literally monologue about how the show is going to be a deconstruction of the Gundam Wing-esque setup, only for it to not be that at all.
